You mean you want to add a front porch in front of the front porch that was enclosed to make more living space? I would extend the existing roof line out and basically recreate the trim above the windows and door and the tapered columns. You would also need to remove and add new steps. I would check with the local planning department as you might need a variance to extend the porch. I think you could end up with a look you would be happy with. It's not going to be cheap though.

That's correct. The steps need to be replaced because of deterioration so we thought of just adding a stoop there and covering it. We did want to mimic the taper of the pillars but we were thinking of imitation the window dormer roof. Thanks for your input. I will check out your web site.

Adding a porch in front of the porch is just going to emphasize that the porch was closed in. Ideally push the entry door back a couple feet. If not a plain awning.

Can we talk about color placement? Picking out the block foundation in white emphasizes part of the structure that really isn’t a feature...

How about opening up all or just a portion of the existing porch? The area adjacent to the steps could be reopened and you’d have a great covered landing.

As Hallett & Co. suggested, look into recessing the portion of the enclosed front porch to re-create an entrance way to what was your original front door before the entire front porch was enclosed. Can this be done? It will make the enclosed space smaller, but would look appropriate and solve your problem of having a covered entry way.
