new flowers in Jerusalem artichoke infested area

Hello! My inherited garden is rife with Jerusalem artichokes. I know they are nearly impossible to get rid of permanently, but I would still like to try to grow other plants!

My question: if I pull out all the Jerusalem artichokes in one area, and plant a new flower in that spot, is it doomed? I am thinking of planting: phlox, black-eyed susans and possibly daffodils. Appreciate all the advice!
