ISO flush mount light suggestions for galley(ish) kitchen

We are in a prewar apartment rental with a galley-style kitchen. We want to hang the Nelson Saucer Bubble Pendant over the round kitchen table, but what should we use to replace the terrible (below) builder grade flush mount fixtures? The current ones emit poor light at best so we would like to install ones to complement the bubble pendant. We need four - two more for the kitchen and two for the hallway right off the kitchen. What do folks think would be a good choice, preferably not too expensive.

Would also love recs for task light strips to install under the kitchen cabinets. Must be battery operated as not able to do electrical for under the cabinets. Again, as this is a rental, not too expensive.

It kind of depends on what the situation is behind these lights. You might need to stick with something pretty wide. IKEA has some good basics that are totally unobtrusive and should work in here - this or this. For under the cabinets, try battery-operated puck lights. If you're only using them for task lighting and not leaving them on all day, they'll last a while!

Yes, I think the saucer would look great over the table. As to the other light, it would have to be something close to the ceiling... how about some track lights? I know they’re usually considered tacky, but you might need more light along the kitchen than one fixture would provide.

Marta, thanks for your quick reply. I should have made more clear in my original post - this is a rental apartment and we are only able to use the spots where the current fixtures are. We are going to install some under cabinet lights (battery operated as this is a rental and we cannot hack into the electrical) to create more task light on the kitchen counters.

Not sure if this is available in the States, but I really love my Trenz flushmount LED panel. It looks so so sleek and blends into the ceiling. Basically the functionality of potlights without the installation. I have it on a dimmer because it is BRIGHT. The mixture of uplight and downlight really seems to work well.

I got the 2 feet x 2 feet option because my room is square and it fully covered the damage that the previous (horrible, round) fluorescent fixture left. Your space would probably call for something smaller.

ETA: I looked at a ton of other lights before making this choice and other than long track lights, nothing was nearly as bright/big of an impact for the size.
