We recently did a whole house renovation. Our house is modern and has MANY windows-mostly casement and various large architectural window features. We ended up replacing some of the windows (mostly all on the main level) but decided to conquer the others later due to renovation costs.
I am now ready to replace the remaining.... 41 windows!
For the windows and sliders we replaced, we used the Kolbe Vistaluxe brand. After living in the house for a few months, I am not overly impressed with this brand. Mainly because of the wood interior and functionality. We had our "painters" finish the wood interior because neither my contractor nor sales rep told us that the Kolbe factory could pre-finish/paint the interior in factory! (my dissatisfaction might be less had we known this and done it, knowing how it looks if painted onsite) We had it painted and I just don't like the look, not to mention the durability. I love the aluminum clad outside look on the house but the interior isn't pleasing to me. Our windows are black/black (interior/exterior). I want something with little to no maintenance required inside or out...inside especially.
So my search has brought me to the Marvin line of windows. I have been talking with the Infinity line, the Elevate line, and now I see this Modern line.
1. Besides the material they are made of, I am looking for anyone that have used these brands or chose one over the other. Why?
Again, this is for a more modern looking home. I don't want to see "chunks" of black trim or frame around my windows. My home is mostly white with black throughout. I want a thin-barely there black frame seen from inside and outside.
2. We have a steel frame front door and we went with the Kolbe to mirror these steel frame doors. With that understanding, can I get that look using any of these Marvin brands--is one better than the other? I assume Modern is a perfect fit, but it sounds as if the price will be exuberant. Does anyone have an opinion from their experience of what will match the Kolbe VistaLuxe best?
3. Lastly, is it true that I will most likely need to do a "full frame" window replacement versus an "insert"/"pocket" window to maintain the current view/glass space I have. I keep hearing that all these window lines, if done as an "insert" will take away some of my open view. Modern is the only line that I've been told must be "full frame" so I suppose that I won't lose anything with that line.
4. Seeing that we just finished an almost 2 year renovation, I worry about having more crews in here doing work, like full-frame on 41 windows that could potentially open me up to damage done to our interior or exterior? Any nightmare situations I should be aware of?
Who knew that windows could be so involved! Thank you in advance
