Bathroom fixture suggestions for Navy Vanity

I am remodeling my kids' bathroom and would like to mix fixture finishes. The vanity is Navy. I like the look of the gold with the Navy cabinet pulls but not sure I want to incorporate gold/brass in the other fixtures. I've always tended towards chrome/nickel. I thought that black would be fun in the shower with white tile and gray grout (trying to be less white). But I'm not sure how to mix the finishes (vanity pulls, sink faucet, mirror, sconce lights and shower fixtures). Should the sink faucet match the shower faucet? Should certain fixtures match to balance out the design? What do you recommend? Below is my storyboard. The sconces will be to the sides of the mirrors and will all be the same finish (I just have a few below that I like for idea purposes) And of course the two mirrors will match each other as well. The shower head will be on the same wall as the vanity. The floor tile is a porcelain in gray and the shower is white with gray grout that extends halfway up the vanity wall. Thanks for your help!

IMO simple is always best and I think mixing those will just look like you couldn’t find all the stuff in one finish I also don’t see the point of gold fixtures in a kids bathroom just do a nice simple nickel easy to keep clean and looks great with navy.IMO good lighting in a bathroom lights the vanity and the mirror not the ceiling.

Thanks for your comments Patricia! Very helpful. Great point on the lights! I’ve never used side sconces before. I like the nickel but am concerned it will look too white and want to add contrast to the white tile. Thoughts?

Those were my thoughts. The OP wants contrast at all costs. Stick to one finish and move on.

Itsourcasa, thanks for sharing your pictures. I think this works here. I love it. It's bright and fun and classy.

I’ve seen a lot of nice looks where vanity light and mirror match, then bath/shower fixtures match with faucet. Cabinet hardware can go either way. I think you should go ahead with the mixed look. I love it

-Sorry to hijack - @itsourcasa I actually love your shower curtain. Where is it from?

The circle mirror in gold is beautiful to accent the gold hardware on a navy blue vanity. Plus I think the circle is a more modern look which appears to fit that style of your initial post.

However, depending on the vanity, is it double or single sink? If it is a double sink, circle can still work but would have to make sure there is enough space between where it doesn't look too crowded. If there isn't a sufficient amount of space, then the long vertical rectangle mirror would work best! Good luck!

itsourcasa and msteezy, I thought the same think about the curtain. Thanks for sharing the pictures msteezy. I like these looks too. Coastal Floors, I do love a circle mirror and did that in my guest bath. Unfortunately, call me crazy, but we need medicine cabinets so I'm going with the West Elm or PotteryBarn framed recessed medicine cabinet. What do you think of black sink faucet and shower head with pulls, lights and mirrors matching in nickel or gold? I don't see many pictures of a Navy vanity with black faucet so maybe my idea on that is totally off?

@Trem Wills it is a great curtain, leftover from our last house and put up until we get glass put in (although not cleaning glass is also great right now so we're in no rush lol). I got it from bloomies a few years ago it's called panama stripe.

I am currently renovating my second bathroom and read several articles on how to mix and match finishes.

In the end, I kept one finish (Brushed Nickel), not because I don't like the look of mixed finishes, but because I didn't feel like it would work in my home. MCM, teak, clean lines, little or no ornamentation.

My sister's home is pretty much the polar opposite of mine, but I admire her taste. She has a Tudor home furnished with a mix of ornate antiques and industrial pieces. She has 7 different species of wood in her living room. She picked unique handmade knobs for her white kitchen cabinets - every cabinet has a different knob(s). If one cabinet has two doors those two knobs will match. The white drawers all have black pulls. She has one wood piece in her kitchen that matches the island and the wood doors and drawers have consistent knobs and pulls. She has oil an rubbed bronze finish on her faucet and stainless steel appliances. Somehow this eclectic mix works beautifully in her home, but it isn't accidental. Each finish, each wood, each item was carefully chosen.

My sister also has a huge, vivacious personality that matches the energy in her home.

I think itsourcasa did a beautiful job using both black and gold throughout the room, well balanced and interesting.

Look around your home and examine your own personality. If they both lends themselves to mixed metals go for it. Have fun! Add interest!

Here is a good article on how to mix metals.

Navy and Brass are my two favorite combos.

Here’s my navy guest bath. We stuck with silver fixtures although I toyed with doing mixed. We have no other gold fixtures in the house so I couldn’t pull the trigger. Just thought you’d like to see a pic of this look to help in your decision.

K R -Thank you for sharing, This is beautiful. I like your large mirrors and hanging sconces. For the look I am going for, these finishes would work. On other note...What tile did you use in your shower and where did you find your vanity? I'd ask about the mirror and hanging sconce, but can't do either.

Altair, that picture caught my eye as well and got me thinking about the brass.

Thank you. Floating vanity and mirrors were custom, tile is a very simple wavy/textured white tile. It was purchased in a tile shop near me, but it’s pretty generic, here’s a similar tile. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Anatolia-Tile-Hudson-Brilliant-White-Motion-Glossy-12-in-x-24-in-Glossy-Ceramic-Wall-Tile/1001042740?cm_mmc=shp--c--prd--flr--google--lia--230--walltile--1001042740--0&placeholder=null&gclid=CjwKCAjwoc_8BRAcEiwAzJevtTfv-TNaQZip8zyqzzZlKWVZ_TdnnPmkfp04l_XXc_9WQmT8jXClBoCPRUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

GREAT BOARD! I suggest that you do double globe sconces these will give you the most light!

    These are great options!

These are beautiful lights. If I use two on both sides of vanity will that give uneven light to a person’s face when standing over one of the double sinks and mirror? I’m thinking I need more narrow lighting and use three placed on either side and in the middle. I would prefer just two so appreciate your thoughts on this.

If you use the first design the "shams dual globe wall sconce" it will give you even light since it's all perforated.

With a navy vanity, I absolutely love brass. Brushed brass preferably.

I agree brushed brass is beautiful! This photo is a light fixture our company purchased for our showroom display from Houzz! Absolutely beautiful piece and they just got it back in stock! It is called Motini hanging pendant 8W 3 Led in Brushed Brass.

I understand this will not work with what you are looking for but that similar color is beautiful!

Wow you all gave me some great suggestions that I loved! I had to work within a budget and time frame so didn’t get to do what I would’ve liked but I am very happy with the end result. The goal of my remodel was to fix the leaks, provide storage and an update in style. I decided on 2 finishes...chrome and black. And used 3 sconces. Thanks for everyone’s input! Yes...I went with medicine cabinets! But we needed storage for three teens/young adults. They wanted a fun blue color on walls. Here is the result!

I love all the navy vanities! I also love what everyone's done here.I want to put one in my remodel with white marble shower tiles and medium/light gray tile floor. Counter top is slightly gray veined white quartz. My question; does navy vanity wear well over time? Several friends say go with gray vanity to keep monochromatic palette as I could get tired of the navy. (Sorry for long winded question ;-) And thanks for letting me piggy back on the post. Many thanks!

@Sharon Hanes - current trends can quickly become outdated. That includes all of the gray which is going out and the white on white and white with navy that is the new trend.

What makes something timeless that you won't tire of is picking colors that you love and incorporating those colors into your design.

Neutrals are viewed as safe - no one walking into your home should be completely turned off by a neutral palette. For resale, most realtors will recommend a neutral palette. I sold my home in 3 days with a palette that included deep wine reds and deep smoky blue greens during a time when the average market time was about a month. I only needed one buyer who loved color and there was a ton of inventory that was builders beige and white or gray and white.

Pick colors for your home that make your heart sing. If you walked into Macy's or Bed Bath and Beyond and didn't have to match the towels to any space - just needed towels and a shower curtain that was going to make you happy, what color would you pick? Once you answer that question figure out what color vanity you should use to make the color choices you love feel right in the space.
