i wait until i have actual tile on the wall before i commit to a location. Before I close up walls i will have a general idea of layout and location. (That alone (how i come to that alone is a long subject)

I will frame in a rough opening making sure i can achieve what im going for and then close walls up.

I later, when tiling come back and "CUT IN my actual final location.. You need to account for grout spacing, plumbing walls, inside outside corners , expansion joints etc to be exact.
