Help with living room decor /floating shelves

I’m thinking about putting two floating shelves on each side of the fireplace. Need opinion on colour/style . Should I go white ? Or with a oak/rustic finish.
Also looking for opinions on coffee tables. Round or rectangle ? Colour?? Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you!

I would skip the shelving. I think your room looks very good!!! I love love love the molding and would maybe white wash that stone on the fireplace. Other than that maybe a sectional couch and a square coffee table. Overall super nice room love the cozy vibe

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond ! I feel like our walls are so bare - so thought the shelves would be a nice touch ! ?
Thanks for suggestion on stone for fireplace ...my husband also suggested possibly white washing the stone. The couch is new so probably won’t buy a new sectional 🥴
I was thinking square for coffee table as well....

I don’t think the shelves would work with the existing set up. Have you thought about moving the TV to the wall with the black chair and making that fireplace wall a focal point? You could do a mirror or art or a collection of vases, candle holders etc.

Everything you have there now is a nice start to a great room :)

Thanks so much for your feedback . I was trying to go by these pics for ideas - and I thought maybe it would work for our living room ??

I guess I’m with you on this. Love the idea of white floating shelves. I especially like your first inspiration picture.

Nice room but isn't your TV a little high to watch comfortably? I would paint the mantel either grey or black like the firebox, since white stands out too much. I think your TV should be on the left side of your fireplace on a console with art over your mantle.. If you leave your TV above the mantle, I would not put floating shelves on either side...some pretty artwork on either side would look nice, Not liking the wrought iron shelf thing in the corner...do you have another place for it? Then put a nice tall green plant there. Oh! A square coffee table would work.

Thanks so much for feedback —-that iron shelf unit in corner i plan to remove from that area (just put it there for now lol) also looking for plants! Thanks for suggestion on what type of coffee table!

With art ...I have a hard time picking that out ??
Again I struggle with interior decorating 🤦‍♀️

Also , for those of you who said no to the floating shelves, can I ask why you think it wouldn’t work for my room ??

TV looks too high to me also. Corner iron piece detracts from nice fireplace. What’s the outlet high up on right for? What is the console looking piece behind black chair? I like your furniture pieces & rug together & looks like a really nice room. Thought of painting that fireplace makes me cringe! I think it’s pretty & adds nice texture to room. I’m not a member of the “let’s paint all the stone group”. I can’t offer any suggestions about your shelves or coffee table choice without seeing more of room from different angles. I do agree that walls either side of TV could use some interest but I keep coming back to TV. Too big for space & too high. My vote is to move it but can’t say where wo seeing more of room. Doing that might require some rearranging of seating too. I just think the fireplace would look so pretty with the TV moved.

my statement was based on how high your TV is and the thickness of your mantle. They seem unbalanced and the shelves wouldn’t change that. Are you open to changing the fireplace a bit? Like a different mantle, lower the TV a bit?

It’s a big living room area. My husband and I flipped this house buy adding an addition (the living room being part of the addition) and plan to sell it in the next couple years . Attached are some more pics of living room ...part of it right now is used up with toys till we can get our playroom done!! I see what you mean about the tv . Would mounting it in a corner look alright ? I don’t mind rearranging furniture and making changes just don’t want to add more work than we have too.

Yes, you do have lots of options with all that extra space! Lots more wall space. What‘s ETA for play room completion? If it’s before child outgrows those toys, I’d wait before making major moves around in this room. I don’t think you need TV in a corner either & with ur space it can be away from fireplace. That high wall outlet - purpose?

No purpose ??! Really don’t know why my husband put it there ? 🤦‍♀️

We hope to get the play room done this winter and hoping to finish the interior of this house this winter too!

Ok then , my vote is to make no changes to this room until that playroom is done! In the meantime, work on drawing out room arrangement utilizing the entire room & figure out the best & most comfortable spot for TV & what if any pieces you need to acquire For TV placement. Then you can work on art arrangement over fireplace & your question becomes what to place in floor space & on wall on both sides of TV. I think you also add removing that outlet & patching the wall to your long list of projects! 😁
