mixing old and new

Want to update lamps and accessorize a master bedroom that has dark traditional furniture (except bed) to a more cozy retreat.

All I can see in your pictures is a gorgeous standard poodle!

OK, now that my eyes are off the perfect dog (I have been looking for a standard pup for the past four months, to no avail :-( my first suggestion is to find some nice ceramic lamps for your tables. Then I would split up the furniture. Those two dressers side by side are not working well together.

Ooh your view is lovely is it possible to face your bed in that direction?

As to lamps larger ceramic ones will do a lot to update the area. Maybe a light blue similar to you bed coverlet. Can you post a floor plan to see if we can help utilize the best furniture arrangements.

When I think of making a bedroom with dark traditional furniture (aka "brown stuff") warm and cozy, I think of adding color and pattern. But I also find that good quality wood furniture adds warmth to a room, especially if the room has white or grey walls.

ML Swartz, what are the doors off the bedroom opposite the window? Are those closets? Rather than considering built-ins right away, what about reconfiguring or possibly enlarging (if possible) the storage space you already have to make it work better for you? And maybe one large dresser or media/storage cabinet opposite the bed for the TV and other items.

I agree Becky. Certainly doesn’t help that my Mahogany dresser has no drawer pulls( I have them and have to get screws or will changeout) and my husbands chest and nightstand could use some new pulls too. Trying to get him to agree to new but you know how that can go.

Thanks Jinx. Would gray bed linen create a warmer/ cozier look with the gray wall?

I’m so upset ... I was trying to edit a link in my post and accidentally deleted the whole thing! The board has been very glitchy for me today. Ugh.

I think gray linen is lovely, as well as the flax color. They have such nice textures, too.
