How thoughtful of him! I love that shade of green, it reminds me of our last house (home office) ... I had olive green walls with vintage furniture. It’s such a cozy color.

I find some really nice, inexpensive vintage pieces at local antique malls, FB Marketplace, Etsy, garage sales, etc. I know posters here will come up with lots of great ideas.

look at craisglist for vintage mcm pieces, or even antique pieces. they can be refinished.

you'll need a bright rug to pick up the colors, but lighten up the space a bit.

I love this one. see if he can put up some trim molding pieces like this.

Get a new fan.

you can find vintage nightstands like this, or look on wayfair.

make sure to get a light comforter, throw, and a nice lighter tone rug.

black fan like this would also work. plus, a warm wood shelf w/the lighter white accents, keeps the room from looking like a cave

i just ordered a really thin down comforter from amazon. cheap too. you could do that and a nice duvet cover, or just leave the white comforter w/some pillows/throw.

as for the rug, look into a flat weave type of rug.

Wow Jinx thank you so much!! I love all of your ideas but now I’m getting overwhelmed with all of the options haha. I was thinking the same thing about camel leather. I love the dusty rose tones in your inspiration pics but rust is also one of my favorite colors.

The rug is beautiful but I probably should’ve mentioned that we’re both very sensitive to dust so we’ll be sticking to machine washable rugs and drapes only. I think the company that offers this is called Ruggable? I’ll look and see if they offer anything in a similar color scheme to what you listed. I have to admit I do wonder if we should skip the rug entirely because of our allergies. I’ll see what my husband wants to do.

The anthropology quilt is right up my alley. I’ve only had one quilt before and my washer couldn’t get it completely clean which again is an issue because of our allergies. We also do not like duvets. We have a cream chenille bedspread right now that is lightweight and easy to clean but it needs to be replaced. I know they come in different colors but I much prefer the look of a quilt. I wonder if I get one thin enough if it’ll work. Maybe a crochet afghan bed runner could bring in color instead?

You’ve given me a lot to think about. I guess I need to pick a color scheme first which will probably be determined by my bedding.

love the direction you want to go in having a modern grandmas bedroom. lots of great ideas already and just thought i would offer a couple more. i like the idea of bringing in a modern quilt with florals and then a couple vintage pieces

So I found a coverlet that I might like. I’m going to order the sham first to see if I like the material in person. In some of the other pictures the colors look faded out which I prefer. I also like the idea of draping this copper blanket across the foot of the bed if I end up getting the bedspread. The print reminds me of a rug which I’m hoping will let me skip getting an actual one ha! If I don’t end up liking these I’ll probably just stick to the cream chenille bedspread we already have and go from there.

Thank you for the ideas Beth! I was also thinking about adding in some lighter and warmer wood accents (perhaps with the nightstands) but doesn't it look kind of off with my more cool toned floors? If you see the original pic I attached I have a vintage nightstand in the room and the color really doesn't work in there. With the black ceiling fan do you think it would be too much if my bed frame is black as well? Or make the ceiling feel too low? I do appreciate mcm but I must admit it's not my style.

I love your ideas Theresa. I agree with adding in a few vintage touches around the room. We had the most gorgeous vintage amber glass lamps at our last house but the wiring was starting to mess up and the finish on the lamp was chipping off so I decided they weren't worth rewiring. Because of this I probably won't purchase vintage lamps again but I would love it if I could find vintage inspired ones. The bedding idea is great.

When you get a print for the bedding you will want to have some of the wall color in it as well. That will "tie" the two together, making it a cohesive whole. Artwork for above the bed would follow the same principle. I love the bed frame you have chosen. Simple but still the feeling of a modern "Grandma's room."

do you by chance have any vintage pieces that you want to add, stuff you already have... that may also help in the look... perhaps a vintage dresser or perhaps a vintage quilt... those would add a coziness.

Do any of you think it’s possible to make these lamps work for the bedside or should I keep looking? I love their texture but can’t really picture them working with a black metal bed frame. Bedding still hasn’t been decided on yet.

I tend to agree, color is off to me and they also don't feel vintage. i would keep looking. how about some color with the lamps?

Thanks Theresa I have to agree. I'll keep looking. I'm fine with color in the lamps but just worried about the possibility of changing bedding in the future and having it not match. To answer your prior question, I don't have any vintage items that I think will go well in this room. We decluttered pretty heavily before moving here. I also think nightstands may be the only other furniture besides the bed that I add in here because I am fairly into minimalism and keeping things easy to clean.

Theresa I love the white table lamp you listed, thank you! The shape is beautiful. We will hopefully order the bed in the next week or so and once I know the dimensions of the one we end up choosing I'll order our lamps.

Does anyone know if it would look okay if I add olive green into the room? Perhaps in a pattern in the bedding since I'm still deciding on it? It's one of my favorite colors to decorate with but I'm not sure it'll look okay with the wall color. I've seen a few rooms that have done various shades of green but I'm still unsure.

if it had some white or cream and the olive was more of a secondary color, yes. really depends on the tone
