I’m listening to Alex’s memoir, and just heard a passage where he talks about how he does the show, not only the prep but during the show, he has to adjust the timing. Speed things up a little, or stretch. Someone with game show or broadcast experience would be good at that, like Cooper. The host also has to be affable, able to improvise, again, things someone from broadcasting. Is it Cooper? Maybe, I was thinking LeVar Burton after seeing his name bandied about, and I like him but he might be one, too old (sorry, but he is my age), and two, does he have those qualities?

But here’s the thing: the last show Alex did, there was a champion. The next show, will they be the returning champion? How weird will THAT be? I know they will be training and rehearsing the new host, but contestants are accustomed to watching Alex, it’s his rhythm they are used to, and will be jumping into really unknown territory with any new host.

I was hoping they would not choose Ken Jennings. He’s too dull. Alex had such a talent for languages. I doubt the next person will be that good.

Yes, it will be very weird for the champion to compete with Alex and then come back to a new host.

I think Anderson already has good gigs on CNN and 60 Minutes. I’ve heard that Laura Coates is/was being considered.

I heard Alex wants a particular sportscaster to be considered. He'd certainly be able to think on his feet!

The only way I could see AC taking that job is if he wanted a lighter schedule so he could spend more time with his son. Plus I doubt he would move to LA, so they'd have to move the show to NYC.

He was also, to my recollection, never political . That's why I think neither GS or AC would be appropriate. I can't think of who would be good to follow in his footsteps.Honestly.

The NYPost is a tabloid rag, so I wouldn't put too much stock in whatever they have to say.

I would like to see a woman in his stead...I'm tired of women on game shows in non-speaking parts as pretty objects in fancy dress who can point at a product or open a suitcase or turn a letter after it lights up.

Yes, I don't typically read the NY Post for sure, and in this case it was just the headline that popped up on my Twitter feed. To my discredit, I responded without reading the actual article, which really did not indicate anyone was seriously considering it.

Alex actually advised Todd Crain to apply for his job, once he left Jeopardy. He told him he would put in a good word for him, but that his replacement will and should be, up to the network. So it's highly doubtful the network will go with someone who is not really well known. But at least Mr. Crain has a personal note written to him from Alex Trebek, who clearly felt he'd be well suited for the job.

I think someone not well know would be the way to go. Todd Crain looks like a good candidate.

I would be happy with a relative unknown host if he has the charm and intellect of Alex.

I wouldn't especially care for a woman as host. And I agree that an unknown person, i.e. not celebrity, would be good.

It needs to be someone totally non-political...(Is there anyone left in the world who fits that description?)
