Scale of lamps on sofa/console table

Hey everyone, I have “big blank rectangular drywall room” syndrome in this house. I’m trying to make it feel more special and grand through a symmetrical layout and lighting.

I personally feel like these lamps are too wimpy. They are 28” tall, which is recommended size I saw online (Laurel Bern, Houzz, etc), but it doesn’t feel right.

Should I go larger? Maybe smaller?

Another view. Sorry, second photo was lamps from other room. My question is about the crystal lamps.

Can you post a price from the other side. So we can see the dining room wall. I think they look fine. Maybe put them a little closer together.

Over the legs of the sofa table.

I think the lamps are fine. I would move them a few inches closer together, and put a nice green plant in the middle. Pull your blue chairs out of the corners and slightly more into the room so they are more connected with the sectional. Your art changed in the photos! It looks like you have two great vertical pieces, which would look good on either side of the tv, and add some depth and interest to that wall. Or place them side by side on the wall where you currently have one and paint the tv wall a deeper color.

If lamps and table meet these height guidelines, you should be OK. If they do so and still seem 'weenie' to you, they probably need to have a chunkier, rather than slim and transparent base.

@calidesign I uploaded this on mobile and went through a few different iterations of this room. Here it is at its current state - two big horizontal pieces about 44x60 on each "side" (living room / dining room with console and two lamps in dead center).

I appreciate everyone's posts! I have been watching sex and the city and was obsessed with Mr. Big's over-sized lamps, and thought I needed something more substantial for this room, but maybe standard height makes sense and I just need something thicker.

Like your area rug! Can you share where you found it?

You need a chandelier in the DR and now that you have those lamps that piece will need to work with them. I like the lamps but a bit too blingy for me in a LR but closer together for sure. I am not sure about the rug since I can’t see the colors in it so I would probably have gone something a bit more colorful to work with the blue chairs

Moved them closer together, put bigger shades on, and put some “placeholder” books there and feels SO much better.

@ratherbesewing it is LOLOI Gianna in smoke! but I got it off overstock for much cheaper under “Alexander Home” brand name —> https://trk.overstock.com/bXf4yQc7qbb

Thank you Patricia. Those chairs were actually placeholder from another room to see what scale works. I’m on the hunt for a rolled arm chair that is smaller scale (but not puny) in a navy color.

The chairs here are actually a challenge since you walk from entry way right into them, so I don’t want kid sized but I also can’t swing the standard 37”-40” depth.

I know Houzz doesn’t like sectionals, and now that I have one I know why 🙃

Does look much better with them placed closer together. Can't really tell if the larger shades are better or not. You probably have a better idea, seeing them in person. Lovely room btw.

Like how you did the drapery to the ceiling - generally people tend to not put drapery high enough.

    @Angel 18432 thanks so much!

Frankly, I can't tell either. The new shade is creamy linen, the old one was an off-white silk. I think I definitely need some ivory in here. I am planning to return lamps (have 3 days left in Home Good's return policy), and replace with something ceramic.

I think you might be going in the right direction with Ceramic. They may be a bit too blingy for your taste. Lamps are like pillows, you have to take them home and try them.

Speaking of which, why not look for a few pillows with some color for the sectional while you are shopping.
