Help me add life to our newly reno'd kitchen

Hello!

We are nearing the end of our kitchen reno; everything has gone according to plan and we're really pleased with the outcome. We're beginning to think about the finishing touches and accessories - those things that will make it special.

Attached are two "so far" photos:

The backsplash will be white Corian; it matches the cabinets and walls perfectly. The island (105x45") will have a charcoal leathered granite waterfall top.

Certainly it seems that all those cool and monochromatic finishes need some warmth. I'm planning on adding wood counter stools and accessories (like canisters and a cutting board) plus an appropriate plant or two. Some colorful barware will live in the glass cabinet.

Note that there are only 2 (adult) humans living here and we're not heavy kitchen users. But we do want to smile when we walk down the stairs in the morning!

To help with a sense of our style, I'm attaching additional pictures of the adjoining rooms:

I would consider a Persian-style runner with some red, similar to the one in the living room.

A beautiful large wooden cutting board for the island.

The price on this tiered fruit bowl is appalling, but the shape works for your MCM style and it would work great with any red and green fruits and vegetables, to pick up the green of your plants and the reds in the living room.

Such an amazing kitchen, wow. It does look a lot more formal than the rest of your house. I’d warm it up with leather/brass instead of wood/rattan at risk of it going rustic. I saw these at CB2 and thought it’d be good fit.

Consider something other than white Corian to give it some pop/warmth/pizazz.

Keep the kitchen cool long and efficient . That’s what it is. Connect the dining zone where I see someone seated w laptop. Rug / cart w small coffee pot and cups... on casters you can remove it if it bugs you at formal dinners. Consider something other than charcoal walls . More plants / small bookcase.

I didn't see a photo or link to the bowl and now curiosity is killing me ;-) Regardless, a super practical idea and one that I'll def pursue! I've been struggling with the rug issue. For years we had a chilewich mat but they've changed their sizing and frankly, nothing "sparks joy" from their current offerings.

I'm learning towards a tribal/kilim-type runner in the red family. Thanks for the vote in favor of that!

It's so insane to me that bowls range from $10 to $1200 and you might not even be able to tell the difference. I agree with beckysharp, a red kilim would be amazing in this kitchen, it's practically begging for it.

You could probably find something at Et sy or by a local skilled artisan.
