Engineered wood installed, plank colors vary greatly, not consistent

I finally bit the bullet and decided to have French Oak Engineered Wood 6" planks installed throughout my house. The contractor's installer put one single dark board next to uniform lighter boards, making it look like a patch job. This occurred in 4 areas of the house. They said that to tear is out and redo it would cost me hundreds if not more in material and labor and postpone the job a week, missing other factors already scheduled. Shouldn't this be their responsibility to look at the flooring before installing to ensure a consistent flow of color? Am I liable for payment to have this corrected?
