I would do high gloss white kitchen with satinless appliances and a black soapstone counter

I agree with June that I wouldn't rip it out, but if you do, you could definitely do something other than white. Black, charcoal, navy or even a lighter grey would look great with those floors.

June & blond, I hear you on leaving it, but the cabinets themselves are pretty beat up (prior owners had young children who, they told us, enjoyed opening and slamming them - lots of chips and peeling veneer). We could reface them, or swap out the fronts. Our appliances are also going - in the last two weeks, our dishwasher and fridge both gave out (we're using a minifridge for now). I'm just so grateful the oven hung on through Thanksgiving! I love these color suggestions - agree contrasting countertop would give it a nice pop.

We have brazilian cherry floors. We will soon be refinishing them, so they will lighten a bit. They were originally finished with bona chemi traffic about 15 years ago. Refinishing your floors and putting a water based sealer on will make them a lot less red. Our floors never got like that.
