I wouldn't be concerned re: GE's ownership. I was reading on Yale Appliances that they think it's a good thing because they're more focused on the appliance division now vs. before when appliances was just a part of the huge GE conglomerate. And if you want a French door oven, I think GE is your only choice (unless you go up to more expensive pro-style brands). re: the brand - it's kind of a toss up for me, and there's no rule that they all have to be the same brand. Buy what appeals to you and your needs first. Bring some pots and pans to the store and check that you like the layout of the gas cooktop (my new house has the burners way too close together, for example). Put your favorite baking sheet in the oven.
