Front Porch ideas for uncentered door

Hello All! I have a ranch modular home. I want to add a new roof and front porch. The deck porch is centered with the house. The front door however is not centered. I always wanted a large triangle dormer in the center with a attic vent. I also think the door needs to be a focal point.

Please share any suggestions?????? Pics will be greatly appreciated.

I also want add left side from front door is 15 feet. Right side from front door is 22 feet. I am installing wood square columns? Cream vinyl, red brick, with black roof and shutters.

IMo you need to post better pics I can’t even see how you get up to the porch . most of the shutters do not belong on any double windows. I think the first thing always is a walkway to the front door I does not matter if the door is centered or not.

I'm wondering if this idea might work for you. Do an open gable that centers with the door and bump it out for more focus on the door and some broad stairs up to the porch, painting the door a pretty color. I wouldn't mess with a dormer. To be in scale with the house, it will look stuck on and dinky. You might want to rethink the shutters. Only the two windows left of the door are appropriate for them.

Ardweena, I see your front steps leading to your front door. That is good. I would, actually, take off all of your shutters. They draw attention to the lack of symmetry. Then, I would paint your front door and storm door a bright color, something to draw attention to IT and away from the windows, etc. Perhaps two large planters with tall topiary shrubs in them, flanking the front door. A way of gaining “balance” will be to add porch furniture to the longer side of the porch, giving it purpose. This is a start!

Thanks for the replies. How do I align the columns? Left side is 15 ft long from door and right side is 22 ft long.

The lack of railings is a serious safety issue...what you have done so far is very nice...and metal railings may go best with the brick ....the columns ..of course should center on the door..if you remove the shutters....the posts will be easier to place as they sort of dominate/dictate the front...

Yes...I will have railings. I plan to place a column on each side of door but not sure about roof line and how to place additional columns.

The shutters sort of draw attention to the window locations...which may conflict with where you want the posts...

It is unclear if you plan to re-do the whole roof...

Ragged but an idea. If you shoot a pic from straight in front with the sun on this side of the house, we'll have a better idea of the proportions. Here I have guessed about columns. Frame the door with one in front of the first shutter on the right and one just right of the first shutter on the left Then move to the next shutter on the right, and the short shutter on the left. Last ones go on the corner of the porch. A better pic will result in better symmetry. Of course, shutters should be off.

The posts are not only aesthetic...they need to be enough to support whatever the roof will require...

Another factor is that any solid roof over the porch will block off natural light that would enter the home....for this reason many people build pergolas that will allow more light in...in the winter when the sunlight is really appreciated....
