Small Modern Bathroom Update / Paint Color Dilemma / Too Neutral?

last modified: 4 years ago

I am updating my (small, only) bathroom in my Mid-Century Modern California Ranch (built in mid 1950s). Work is in process even as we speak.

Here's my old bathroom:

I love a modern/contemporary look and was inspired by this picture I found here on Houzz.

So we gutted the bathroom. I 86'd the tub (replacing with a walk-in shower) and the window (it had a huge crack in it anyway so it's gone).

Here's what I decided:

Onyx shower base mid-height Truffle (it's BEAUTIFUL!)

Floor tile: Stratos Avorio 12 x 24

Shower Wall tile: White tile 12 x 18 (my sample doesn't have the name on it)

Niche tile: Urban Canvas Matte Mushroom wave tile 4.25 x 12.75

Vanity is Omega Cabinetry with Vail doors Cherry Riverbed with Onyx glaze.

(The attached pic is my kitchen cabinets which are the same.)

So - what's my dilemma you ask?

(1) Paint color?!

Well somehow with all these choices I've made, I've created a very neutral bathroom. I'm fine with this. Feels very spa-like. I've finding myself drawn to very neutral paint colors as well.

Thinking Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace for trim AND for the wall of shelves (floor to ceiling) on one wall.

Narrowed wall colors down to

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC 172 (which is wall color in hall and living/dining room). I love it.

OR

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Grey HC 173

OR

Benjamin Moore Athena 858

(2) IF I stay with neutral colors, I realize this allows me the freedom to introduce almost any color in towels (maybe chocolate brown? or slate blue? or even orange?) and maybe art?

So think MODERN and think SPA:

I've made so many decisions over the last couple weeks my brain is literally fried. Is this "too much" neutral? If so, what color(s) do you recommend. If not, what color for towels and/or art?
