Kitchen appliance advice- gas range, wall oven, and refrigerator

Hello everyone, I know yet another appliance post! We are working on our new build, and some of the appliances I am looking for feedback on are from posts from a long while ago so hoping to hear more recent news and updates (if possible). I live in the USVI so appliance shopping is very stressful because I want to guarantee that it will sustain salty air and that I can easily get replacement parts if things go wrong and have someone locally repair. So that means no fancy gadgets just reliable appliances. This is what I am currently considering:

  • Oven range- Wolf 36" Gas Range, 6 burner
  • Wall oven and Microwave/speed oven - Wolf 30" E Series Professional Speed oven and 30" E series
  • Fridge- Cafe 27.8 Cu. Ft. 4 Door Refrigerator

Alternatives to the above that I have been considering are Miele (36" gas range) and Kitchenaid's FDBM 5 DR Refrigerator.

Really would love to hear your thoughts on any of the above appliances and would love recommendations on an alternative for the Wolf wall combo as it is very expensive and get the feeling that I can find a better value. Things I won't compromise are having an all gas range and an electric wall oven (want the best of both worlds) and a large fridge that makes sense in it's ability (e.g. we love the 4 door idea so that it saves some of our produce that dies way faster here in the islands than in the states).

I really would appreciate any and all advice on these. Thank you so much in advance for your time and intel.

Have you considered the Sub-Zero with its ethylene-removing air purification system?

Mine is 14yo and we can tell fresh spinach lasts so much longer in our SZ than if we store it in our pantry fridge (which is something from the scratch and dent store - whirlpool maybe? mostly just for cold drinks)

Had an ex-SZ repairman out once in all these years for a simple repair that cost us about a hundred bucks.

Thanks! I did consider it but was worried about the lack of experience with them here locally but your feedback is making me reconsider. Thank you for sharing

I'm considering the same lineup! I already purchased the refrigerator as our previous one died. I went with the Kitchenaid 5 door. I love the layout and the full depth. It has the filtration system and things are lasting much longer in it than the previous side by side that came with the house. I did have a problem at first. After the installation was complete, including removing all the doors to get it through our kitchen doorway and reinstalling them, the protective film was removed from the door fronts. There was significant patterning in the stainless! To be nice I told the store to just replace the problem doors, but this was a bad mistake. The computer is in the door and it never linked properly to the icemaker. We had water dripping inside daily. After many trips out from warranty repair, KitchenAid replaced the unit. I've never had a problem with the new one at all. Moral of the story: don't try to be nice!

What has drawn you to the Wolf or Miele wall oven? I'm fairly short and am considering a side swing door or french door. I don't want the menu driven controls of some. I am also wondering if I really need the 30 inch rather than a 27 inch with this huge 36 in gas oven.

Interested in hearing your process to decide.

If you are short, you can design the wall oven cabinet to your choosing. Mine is just bit lower than typical because I’m always afraid of burning my forearms reaching over the open door. So I imagined pulling a heavy turkey roasting pan and measured it and thats how high they designed my cabinet. The control panel is just below eye height. There’s a shallow drawer underneath and slots for storing flat stuff (cookie sheets, cutting boards, pizza trays) above.

My current is a KA combo oven - convection below, microwave above, shared control panel. I’d get another one for my new kitchen but the new ones seem to have temperature issues and blue enamel chipping. So we’re getting the Thermador combo although $$$$, I was going for performance, reliability and service (because we will be remote in the lower Florida Keys). Also the newer ones are more electronic and I’m worried about a single broken control panel knocking out both units - the Thermador has separate control panels for each top micro-speed oven and bottom convection oven.

I’m having the cabinet builders drop this one down lower, too. Because for 14years I’ve loved my lower wall ovens and I’m not short - 5’7”. Scherrs is great to work with for any needs!

I would avoid the Wolf wall ovens altogether. Any Wolf product with a blue oven interior has has had issues with chipping. This has been going on for over 10 years and still being reported here. The gas range doesn’t have that problem but I would look at the BlueStar RNB.
