Bathroom tile size dilemma - 6x18 vs 12x24 - black and white bathroom

Hi -

Would love some guidance of tile size choice.

I like the look of subway layout.

Here is the specs for the space -

Shower size is 5ft x 3ft.

Room size is 93" floor to ceiling outside the shower.

We plan on using floor to ceiling tiles for the entire room.

The toilet is in the same room as the shower.

I am getting the tiles from Floor & Decor -

Bright White ice ceramic wall -- right now leaning towards 6x18, however wondering if i can still get the same look with the 12x24 , stacking it in the subway pattern (benefit would be LESS grout lines, easier to keep clean).

For the shower flood, I have ordered the UPTOWN ANTRACITE HEXAGON PORCE --- but now having 2nd thoughts.

I originally wanted to use the white and Black Hexagon II porcelain mosaic, BUT was told not good option for shower floor b/c it would be "too slippery" -- any options similar to this style that would be appropriate for the shower?

Whichever TILE wall size i use in the shower / toilet room, i plan to use where the vanity is located.

The vanity is separated by the shower/toilet room by a door.

The vanity room is 93" x 43" (there is a door leading to the toilet/shower room).

For the vanity room, I will either use the 6x18 or even 1-2 sizes down since there is a window in that room so overall easier to keep clean.

For the vanity room, I plan on doing the lower half, with a black "bullnose" to finish off and paint the other half of the walls a pure white color.

I am thinking of use this for the floor for the entire bathroom

This is what I purchased for the shower floor....but I am nit sure about this for the shower floor

Does manufacturer recommend a running bond for the larger tile? You will need exceptionally straight walls to avoid lippage and other issues with a 12x24 tile.

Wall above toilet ...will tile the shower and toilet room using same tiles used on shower walls

@Seabornman —i see lots of people use the 12x24 to decrease grout lines which should

help keep area easier to clean. But the shower/toilet room is small...the 12x24 just felt so big for that room— it looked huge in the showroom. I thought it would overwhelm my space

@Patricia Colwell Consulting — i originally wanted even a smaller subway tile but the contract mentioned more difficult to keep clean bc of extra grout lines. BTW...I chose the mapel iron ultra color plus grout ....to give the tiles some dimensions...and thinking a grayish grout wouls stain less?

A question I have is if i use the 12x24...the look would be more "modern". I would like to stay with a traditional/transitional style. I gravitate to black and white bathrooms, with a "pop" in design to either one small area or just on the floor.

Would love some input...i paid for the 6x18 tiles, but now second guessing myself. I still have some time before the tiles are laid down to change my mind.

I have a small master bath also and my guys just finished most of the tiling— it’s not grouted yet. My shower is 32” by 60”.I used 12x24 tiles and I think it makes the shower look bigger. I’m going to use white grout This is Alaskan white tile from floor and decor. My shower and toilet are also in a smaller “room but I opened it up as much as possible

@Sharon Perkins -- that is very pretty! I do like "less grout" lines, so easier to clean.

I am buying the grout from floor & Decor -- what is the white grout that you are choosing?

I am curious what flooring you are choosing?

Floor was already done, it’s Armstrong rigid core Elements. I liked that it could be grouted and it’s not cold like tile. I replaced it last year; I couldn’t deal with the bathroom in the carpet setup that was there when I moved in.

Contractor picked up the grout, not sure which white it is. I’ll know tomorrow after he finishes it!

@Sharon Perkins - would love pictures when completed....i do like how you used the 12x24 tiles...

Will do! Hopefully finished tomorrow. He still has to finish the niche.

We also will be using Alaskan white, 12x24 for shower walls. We're going for clean modern look, and I plan to use Schluter chrome profiles between tiles as accents.

Shower is grouted. They used bright white grout. It all came out exactly the way I wanted, especially the niche!

Enjoyed your posts & pictures ... wondering where you got shower faucet? Is that just a standard rain/handheld? Was the wall valve (turn on) part of set, or a universal one in same finish? Never had a rain head before and have wondered if 30x60" shower is large enough? Thanks!!
