Does anyone have experience with a 36” gas cooktop- spills, cleaning?

My husband and I are doing a kitchen remodel. We were interested in 36” cooktop since I do more cooking on stovetop than oven. He is worried the stainless bottom will be a nightmare to clean or keep looking nice since I have been known to boil things over on our current glass top stove.

we also looked at 36” wolf gas range vs kitchen aid 36” dual range.

last thought was Miele induction and put wall oven below but is it going to look less impressive in a big kitchen remodel?

he doesn’t like wall oven look so that option is out.

You will need to be much more attentive to cleaning spills as soon as possible. This will save a great deal of elbow grease, should you wait a long time between cleanings. It will depend upon what is spilled, but baking soda and water paste or Bar Keeper's Friend are good for heavier stains. Because it will be a new cooktop, you may pay stricter attention to the potential for spills/splashes, when cooking.

Just how large is this kitchen? I'd locate large deep drawers beneath the cooktop. I have double wall ovens and a warming drawer several feet away from my cooktop, but I do a tremendous amount of baking, roasting, breadmaking, etc. You'll have to decide what works best for you. If you develop spinal issues, bending over to remove something from a range's oven can be almost impossible.

IMO the person who does the cooking rules the kitchen design and that includes choosing wall ovens mounted at proper use height if you are going with a cooktop. Stainless cleans up just fine from spills I run a catring biz with an all gas stainless 6 burner range at the end of the day easy to clean up. All my parts on the stove top go in my DW if they are really dirty. The burners are closed so the spills stay where they occured. IMO you buy applainces for how you cook not becuse they look good in the space. I will say I have now 3 clients who insisted on induction who have now gone back to gas so make sure what you are choosing is the right thing for you. I have no issue with the looks of a wall of ovens, fridge and pullout pantries it works well looks awesome and that is IMO a functional thing which BTW is the first thing on the list for kitchen design.

Can I ask what brand of cooktop you have? I was looking at the therms for vs wolf for the layout of knobs.

Mine is a Dacor 5 burner (Dacor now owned by Samsung). Knobs are on top, at right hand side, which precludes small children accessing them, or someone bumping into front mounted controls. I love the 2 simmer burners and higher BTU capability on other 3 burners. I had a stainless, higher cfm exhaust hood installed, to deal with this.

You are probably boiling food over because your current glass top is so unresponsive and takes a while to see the temperature change. This won't be the case with gas. I absolutely love cooking with gas and I rarely make a mess.

OP said: "but is it going to look less impressive in a big kitchen remodel?"

Is that your goal for the remodel, looking impressive? Pick the best appliances your budget will allow for your cooking needs/wants. Then design it with pleasing colors, a nice counter and backsplash ... no one will remember what appliances you have!
