I saw your post on a different thread earlier and just wanted to say hi and let you know your post works! I am a very longtime member but can't remember exactly when I started. I had a few user names and definitely remember the Spike era but then maybe had a long break. In any case, I do remember your name and your pooches so welcome!

I have had a different name for most of my member ship, but realized that IRL people cold possibly put two and two together..

There are so many pros and cons on honed vs. polished. Look up etching and you can see exactly what it looks like. If you clean up the spill right away you shouldn't have a problem...and you need to seal it more than less, even with a l5 yr. sealer. My next kitchen is finally going to be marble, I will have honed on the counter and polished on the island.

ohhhh! That is good it is not a load bearing wall. If it were my place, I'd remove the ventless fireplace and make one large, wonderful spacious room. But, I like "space'. :) You can make a large space feel like two rooms by "divide and conquor". But, if you need the space for an extra office, etc. the french door is a good idea. But, will you need the tv somewhere in the room? More pictures would help.

Ideally adding wood flooring that matches your existing wood floor is the best way to go. Vinyl plank flooring is a good option though. You'll need to add subfloor to raise the height or use a transition strip for the the different heights.

Prime first, it'll soak up a lot of it as well. Paneling tends to use more primer than you think. Then 2 coats of paint.
