I'm in south Florida and I have many Buntings at my feeder. yes they are beautiful birds. Also have Cardinals, Chickadees and those pesky larger black birds and bluejays.. but I love the Buntings the most..

bellagirl, what do they eat at your feeder? I just put out some new feed from Wild Birds Unlimited and it's a mix of Saflower seeds, black oil and striped sunflower seeds and sunflower chips (no hulls).

I read they like white millet best but I don't have any at the moment.

I just buy the mix from home depot. I don't know the brand. I've had to fill the feeder about every other day lately. They are ravenous :)

Once upon a time an Indigo Bunting showed up in my yard. They are very beautiful as well.

Well the little PB is back this morning- eating off the seed I threw on the ground UNDER some porterweed branches. Nobody bullies him down there. Just him and a little sparrow munching the safflower seeds. I read that they're shy and like to have low shrubs nearby to hide in.

I just ordered some white millet which is supposed to be their favorite see. They also like to clean up seed from Spanish Needle which I have growing all over my place. When it's blooming in summer, the butterflies love it and it seeds so easily.

Well I'm thinking the PB stayed just long enough to fill up and get his 3 meals per day for three days and now he's gone. Maybe the cooler weather sent him further south.

Oh well, it was thrilling to see him if even for a few days. I watched for any females but none to be seen.

He was back for lunch today. He sneaks in and zooms away pretty fast and sometimes is eating the seed I put under a shady porterweed.

Sultry, my phone wont's capture him, I tried- and my good camera w/ zoom is not working. Sorry.

Picture an unusually colored Kaleidoscope of 'irridescent green royal blue and bright red. I think there's some bright yellow on there also, not sure.

I'll ask my son, who's coming tomorrow, to try his phone for a photo.

Dangermouse, I think you're right that the location of the feeder is crucial.

I read that the PB is very shy and as I watch him from my window that seems to be true.

He actually prefers to eat the seed off the ground UNDER shrub limbs where he's hidden. If he does eat from the nearby feeder he flits right back to the shrubbery.

I wonder if we have the Indigo around here for winter?

mr1010, I love your bird feeder also. That hopper seems to be the most popular style with the birds. Did you make it?

I managed to get a picture this weekend. At one point there were 3 at the feeder, but I couldn't get a picture of them. I love these little guys.

For the first time we had one at our feeder last week. We are in eastern Martin county.

Wow!! How beautiful!

They are so stunning in person, they don't look real. And if the sun hits them just right, the green feathers are actually irredescent.

Haven't seen my little guy this week even though I bought him his favorite food.
