Help designing a wall

Looking for ideas on this big blank wall. The wood bench is not staying there (it’s from before we redid the room), so that entire space is useable. Should I consider a bookshelf? Or just art?

I have a couple of ideas, but can you please show the other side of the room? Especially if you have a TV, fireplace, other large feature in there.

Yes, will attach here. As an FYI, the door is being replaced with a white one, and the fireplace is being refaced (although we haven’t decided exactly what we’re doing with that yet..just definitely removing the brick.

Appreciate any ideas!

Hi there cody922, when you say decorating is on hold until you address this issue what do you mean? Is this not the furniture you are going with? If you are looking for all new direction, then I like this shutter cabinet for your room. Shutters have always been associated with beachy or tropical decor. I like that it would hide your tv when not in use. A tv not in use is just a black space. This cabinet would set the tone for the other furnishigs, I would use roll arm slipcovered seating, as I like the look of the slipcovered fabric on the tile floor. Furniture with legs would look too leggy IMO on the tile floor. I will post some ideas of how I would do the space if it was mine but of course as a designer working with a client a lot of questions would be addressed before making any suggestions.

I don't think the stone wall will accomplish what you are hoping it will. Your space doesn't appear to be very big and you have a lot of other things going on such as the coved ceiling in dining room area and what appears to be a railing up above that niche with the pot light. If you are on a tight budget, your money could be better spent just working with what you have and making it all work for you. Rather than stone veneer on that wall, a large wall unit (not built in) that can hold your TV and provide storage would suit your space better. Rather than the bench (which btw is very pretty and unique), a sofa with chaise facing the TV wall would be more functional and look better. In a smaller space like yours, it is better to define the function of each area with the rugs, furniture and things that demonstrate their purpose. Looking at that niche with the pot light, I wonder if a nice piece of vertical artwork would give that little area it's "purpose". That was probably the original intent of the feature. And beside it where there is another cantilever for the window, drapes that fill in the full width and height of that niche will look fantastic. So, as I say, maybe embrace what you have and just work with it!

Sam, the pictures aren’t showing up. I think the board is being glitchy.

In the meantime, I was wondering about your console table on the other side. I wonder if it would look better moved to the wall in question and adding a lamp and one fairly large piece of art (or pretty mirror) over it? You could keep your current art arrangement and plant where they are.

Having a console or chest there with lighting would look pretty reflected in the door windows, I think ... and your other corner would be more open.

Do you think something like this is too big and out of place for the room...maybe even on the wall to the left of the fireplace? Looking for more surfaces in our house (as we have essentially no where to place pictures or decorative objects)...

I can’t say yet without seeing more, but if it is, you could certainly buy something similar in half that size (half meaning one tall side, rather than double).

Pretty room!

I think a bookshelf would look fine on the left of the fireplace, but not one as wide as the RH one you posted. That’s only my opinion, of course. :)

I just think with the bulk of the fireplace and the sloped ceiling, it’ll be crowded.
