Help with Decor!

Just finished the last big item from our total home renovation, the living room built-ins. Now time to start with decor. We need new furniture for our living room and I’m looking for suggestions on layout and style. Also looking for rug runner for kitchen and what to put on wall at entrance. When you enter my house, you see from one end to the other. I have attached pictures so you can see style and colours. I look the modern farmhouse style but open to any suggestions.

Very nice. I would do 2 chairs and a sofa. Nothing puffy or with large arms. 2 chairs in front of windows with table with lamp between them. Sofa on long wall. (Personally I would have put the TV on the long wall over FP is too high). Use C tables rather than coffee table. Art over sofa. That is a personal choice so look at local galleries. If no galleries try minted.com art.com Make sure you get sofa first so art is correct size should be about 2/3 the sofa width. Again decor for the shelves should be personal/meaningful to you. I would not clutter the shelves up. Large pieces and books.

Try a sleek lounge on one end sofa facing the TV....your neck is going to get tired watching TV over the fireplace.....at this point it would be rather easy to put TV on the long wall. Then select a sleek sofa, maybe with reversible lounge for either end of sofa. TV could be placed on long low console to make power options easier. Then a pair of chairs facing window wall on either side of the sofa. End tables on either side of sofa with large 3 way lighting lamps. Floor lamps on either side of chairs. Non matching cocktail table, and either matching or similar but non matching. Consider Roman shades on window for light control and end panels in a geometric pattern, large horizontal stripe, or floral pattern which ever you like......lastly area rug would add pattern and placed under cocktail table.

Check out long living rooms with fireplace and book shelves and see if you can get some inspiration.

TV on long wall with sofa facing it. You can’t comfortably watch Tv in the current configuration.

Thank you for your responses. We do not watch a lot of TV. When we do, the TV mount extends out 30” and down over the mantle to a lower level for viewing. Much easier on the neck...lol!

you need some color. how about a nice piece of art in back of the sofa?

    greenery always helps.

a rug for kitchen and the living area?

for the kitchen countertops, look at wood cutting boards and arrangements of kitchen items.

bring in simple items for your built ins. (google, "how to style bookcases" to get ideas)

It is hard too advise specifically, as you have not give measurements of the room. On a glance, I would recommend a sofa facing fireplace/t v and chairs at built-ins.

I recommend a rug that fills the space (as shown in this photo).

You didn’t ask about any other area of your home, but I would like to put a bee in your bonnet. The entry, with the black iron spindles and parallel white wood planks (I am not going to call it ship lap, because it isn't) look incongruous. I would paint that wall black.

Thanks Beth H, love your ideas. I would like runner in kitchen in front of sink. Love my hardwood floors in living room and really do not want to cover them.

I posted a few black/gray options. the 2nd runner is my own. but I like the one above it in a runner size too.

hard to tell what colors your countertop is

Living room dimensions would help, also, how many people typically watch the television at one time, and do those people prefer to sit on a sofa or on chairs or on recliners?

For all the naysayers, I love a TV over the fireplace. If you had put it on the long wall, you would have had little room for furniture. It also creates a central focal point. You'll get the best help by posting the measurements of the room while marking all windows and doorways.

alaska white? Cathy, I think you could do a color or pattern.

I'd like something like this one:

(if you want warmer colors, same place, but this is the Della)

and if you want to see the rest of this home: https://www.homebunch.com/white-home-with-front-porch/

or you could do a solid w/some texture

    Ooh, that's a toughy.

Because I then have to ask, who watches more TV to get primacy of place?

If your husband watches more TV, then have a sofa face the TV, and have your chair perpendicular to it, with an ottoman or footstool with your chair if you like that.

If you watch more, you can have two chairs face the TV and a sofa perpendicular to your chairs, and not a huge sofa. And pick a sofa with a streamlined design like a tuxedo style.

You can also get the kind of chair that has a mechanism underneath that allows the chair to rotate.
