A bench may be more practical in here than a couch. If you don't have a closet, this would be the perfect place for hooks, cubbies, and a "landing zone" for purses, keys, etc. Add a full length mirror and lamp to check appearances on the way out or in!

Do you have another day-to-day living area? What about expanding on a library (I see you already have a packed bookshelf), and using a solid vintage round table in the center as both an entry table and a library table, perhaps with the chairs to the side to be pulled up?

how about a little reading room? maybe a chaise? a comfy chair w/foot ottoman? a nice rug?

or, put a desk under the window for a little workspace

What kind of area do you need for your lifestyle? For sure remove the sheers, they don't do anything for the room. Blinds would be a better option or roman shades.

Maybe a combination bar/ library... no sofas; just comfortable chairs maybe with ottoman to sit relax , have a drink and read a book. If you are entertaining, you could set up a snack table.

Think about how you would actually use the space. I wouldn't put anything there that interferes with the straight walkway. Maybe a chaise and small end table, or two armchairs with a round table, or a desk and chair, or a bench and storage for use as a mudroom.

Inviting transitional entertaining space with entry storage:

--Create a pathway with a beautiful runner rug to connect to the kitchen.

--Instead of sofa, build a storage bench under the window across the wall with cubbies and baskets for storage, shoes, entertainment items. Put cushions and cushions on top for a drop space or hanging out space when you entertain.

--Find an oak armoire to use as a closet when you entertain.

--Expand your bar across from the window bench with a sideboard so that when you entertain, you can serve drinks from there. Put a big mirror over it to add reflected light from the window to the space.

Entryway/library/sitting room:

--Build bookshelves around the room.

--Float a couple small scale upholstered chairs, anchored on a rug, in the middle of the room. Use side nesting tables, though, so people can pass through the middle. In this photo below, there's a bench under the window.
