You could paint your fireplace, but it looks like you like orange (pillows). I would get some new artwork for over the fireplace with orange in it. Then I think I would paint the shelves white...(You have white in the kitchen) with back of them the wall color like you have now. Then I would hang some white sheers on the lower windows to soften things up.. If it still looks dark, then I would paint the fireplace or retile it with the tile you have on your kitchen backsplash if possible.

i would do nothing except maybe a few pops of colour on your shelving. Your place looks great. The fireplace inviting, everything coordinates. Sorry Erinsean but I think the art is perfect- both size and colour. If you look closely there is lots of orange in it.

It is too hard to see, but it looks like stone veneer. Is it? Or real brick? If stone veneer, you could remove and replace with something lighter.

It’s stone veneer. I did it 3 years ago so if I do something I would want it to be economical. I can’t redo that quickly and waste the money spent. :) I would love to put pops of color in shelving but want simple. More is less in my book! :)
