Which layout for Wall Oven and Microwave

last modified: 4 years ago

I am supposed to meet with someone (weather permitting) in the next couple of weeks but I want to get some of the layouts the way I am hoping. I know this is not the way it should be and as much as I don't want Stainless--I guess that is my only choice. The cabinets will have different fronts and I am not sure I want Natural Maple Cabinets. I do want something light but maybe a little darker than the Natural Maple.

I wanted to put the GE Cafe French Door single wall oven above and the Microwave with the pull down-door underneath but GE says not to do that. Do I Iower the other single oven so that both are in line with each other or just leave them with one lower than the other?

I wanted both ovens high so that I do not have to bend over. I do not want a Double Wall oven because I want both to be French Door and GE Cafe is the only brand available for me.

Or maybe I should put the microwave in between the 2 single French Door Ovens and have everything in line. Right now the wall cabinet on each side is 32" high but the ones above each wall oven are 20" high.

Does this look better? I tried putting the microwave in another cabinet and not sure that works.

So not sure what you are asking but usually the MW is above the wall oven I aslo would not do the french door ovens unless you have a ton of space between it and the island. I have used them in commercial kitchens and every burn I have ever got was from those oven doors. Maple takes stain very poorly so IMO you either leave it natural or chooose an other wood. BTW stainless is IMO the only way to go fro appliances since appliances need to be bought for how you use them so no one maker makes everything well and they all make stainless, I mean plain old stainless not fancy caoting or color.. Get a micro fiber or 2 use them only for doing the stainless hot water a touch of vinegar and wipe in the direction of the grain takes no more effort than cleaning any thing else. You can put the ovensat any height you like that is the whole point of wall ovens . I don’t like built in MWs they cahnge in size so often that IMO they are best on a shelf or on the counter

Thanks for your comments. I guess I am asking if the single oven should stay at the height it is. I want the French Door ovens because for me it would be easier to remove things from the oven. I know what you mean about MW's changing sizes and that is why I thought about putting it below the cabinet in between the single ovens but I don't think that looks good. I want one with a pull-down door and I don't think that would work on a shelf and I do not want a MW sitting on my counter.

I have the exact configuration you want French Door Oven over Advantium/Microwave. The issue is not that you can’t stack the French Door Oven over the microwave, it is the spacing needed between the two. I originally had the microwave on top but found it to be an issue, so I switched them. The top rack of the French Door oven is a tad high for me when it is a heavy pan (I’m now barely 5’4”) but other than that it works great for us. Here’s a picture:

As a side not: I LOVE my French Door oven! I have a 36" range with a huge oven and only use it when I am cooking for a crowd. The French Door oven is our go to. We use it every day. As for burns, I am the queen of kitchen burns and have had far less burns using this oven.

Thanks, I have asked several people at GE and they have all told me the same that I need to put the microwave on top. Do you like your french door oven? I wish the new one had knobs. For my induction cooktop, I do not want knobs but would love them on the Wall Ovens. Do you know how high the top of the oven is from the floor? I am 5' 6 1/2" so that would probably be easier for me. I am surprised that the ovens only come with 2 racks.

EDIT: Do you have any problems opening the doors being so close to the cabinets?

    Discontinued :(

WOW!!! yours is 78" high. I don't even know if I could reach that. The double ovens I have right now are 65" from top to the floor. So how high is the top of the microwave from the floor?

    How tall is your cabinet?

It depends on what you cook most often. I have the microwave above, because I only use it for heating up leftovers and especially coffee gone cold. The weight of the items is light, so raising them in my arms is easy. My baking is mostly roasting. I roast a chicken at least once a week in a dutch oven that gets very hot. So the lower orientation for the oven is just right for me. Photos:

Thanks for the information, I was wondering where your refrigerator was--very nice. That would be a nice change but I am very limited in what is available to me.

If I put the microwave on top then the ovens won't line up. I have set it up 3 ways and not sure I like any of them. Thanks again, I will go back and read about your adventures.
