Black Stainless Steel Appliances
Comments (4)Nice looking but IMO if the color doesn’t stand the test of time when something breaks down what to do. that is why stainless (reg) has stood the test of time you can mix from different manufacturers with no problem I alsways try to make my clients choose appliancest that function for them not just a set that matches....See MorePOLL: Black Stainless Steel Appliances - Yes or No?
Comments (235)Appliances DON"T last a long time any more!!! They're not like in the old days where you get 10+ years out of them. My black stainless fridge had service in the third year. It was an issue that was common to my model.. They replace everything including motor. Warranty had them give me a check for the purchase price. Also, when my plumber came for water line install in kitchen, he said "get the cheapest- they don't last". A friend got a great washer/dryer set. 1 yr later getting serviced. We went from the "keep forever" to "throw away" furniture and also "throw away appliances". I've had a 4 yr old Samsung fridge and a 5 yr old - $2900 LG Fridge replaced. Neighbors are fixing their 10 yr old appliances because they know they'll last longer than the new ones....See MorePOLL: Black Stainless Steel Appliances in a White Kitchen?
Comments (6)White. If a kitchen is just a series of cabinets with appliances, then any color of the rainbow works. Stainless gets more votes because we have been inundated with these pictures. If a kitchen is an architectural space, then it must be treated as a 3-dimensional sculpture. If a full height pantry was on the end, this would be an end point of the sculpture. A refrigerator on the end should be treated similarly - the cabinet above it should be the same material in order to create the end of the sculpture. Not a stainless box with a with "bonnet" above it with side panels that look like the ribbons of the bonnet. Refrigerators are strong 3-dimensional objects - treat them with the respect they deserve....See Moreblack stainless steel appliances vs stainless steel appliances
Comments (11)Jakvis, my home growing up had SS appliances begininning in the '70s, so it's not "just 20 years ago"; more like 45 years or more that stainless steel appliances have remained popular. I don't like black stainless appliances because they suck all the light, particularly the fridge. When you see them in a store showroom which has acres of ceiling lights they look completely different. In a kitchen, especially one that doesn't have high ceilings and big windows, they will be "en masse", a bunch of black that will be hard to overcome, or to balance with other elements in the kitchen. If you live in a climate with shorter winter days, that kitchen blackness first thing on a winter morning might be so dreary. Why are we seeing the resistance to regular stainless steel with its gleam? Oh, yeah, that's right, the salespeople are being given big spiffs right now to push black stainless hard, and people are falling for it....See MoreShannon_WI
