Comments (37)Front door... interesting that green or blue was suggested! Feng shui says that the position of the front door is "helpful people" space and the color should be blue or green. Once the trim is painted white around the door, it will give the door more definition Chimney... The chimney brick extends to the left of the front door. a major wall of brick. After the door trim is painted white, and the gutters are replaced with white, we'll sit with it for awhile... see if it needs "tweaking with shutters and choice of door color. We thought of "black to pull the black from the wrought iron around the porch. We also think that with a white gutter above the door and the right and left sections, that will give it more definition. A work in progress........See MoreHow to highlight an interesting mantel?
Comments (4)The mantel looks like japanesque influence Eastlake work of the 1880s or so. Really nice example of it. Preserve it, even if not your style; consider yourself the curator for a future generation. In the meantime, give it some breathing room by taking small stuff off the mantel and leaving about 18 inches of blank wall visible above it before the eye encounters a picture or picture frame. Then choose a few favorite items of very strong form and profile to set on the mantle, to be seen against the blank space you've left above the mantel. The spacing and forms will let the differing styles live in harmony. This mantel was originally seen against lavish color and pattern; do a google image search on "eastlake japanesque wallpaper" and you see patterns closely-related to the carvings in the mantel, and lush color. The wallpaper won't be your style, of course. Instead, choose a color -- drawn from your painting, and apply it to the chimney-breast (all three sides, but not to the mantelpiece). Continue it onto the adjacent walls or choose a second color for the adjacent walls. This simple inexpensive approache could bring it all together spectacularly. But do not paint the mantel itself; it will look like crap. Elle is right that the painting is too wide for the chimney breast, but its fan shapes are nice compliments to the japanesque carving. If hanging it vertically is an insult to the artist, find another place for it in the room, and choose something of different proportions for the overmantel. Good luck; spectacular feature to work with!...See MoreThe whole point of staging your home, is to highlight its beauty!
Comments (16)Except second one is special effect picture , shot from same point (without door in a way) but room seems twice large not because furniture is placed correctly . I realize that by looking at the size of fireplace in first and second picture. Don't take me wrong it is nicely stage but if we comparing , should be apples to apples ......See Moreaktillery9
