Well not only did I put towels on our chairs but I also put them on the two area rugs that we had. You could always try that. :)

I always had to get hooked rugs when I had bad ones. I guess they aren't fun to sharpen on.

Jinx, do you have a link to the black and cream geometric rug that's out of stock? I, too, have to replace a rug that's been "enhanced" by our small furry creatures and I think that one might be just right.

I love the black and cream but it says it's jute. Aren't cats deadly on jute?

Oly, I have an ancient jute runner from Pier 1 very close to where the cowhide was (in entry), and they don’t touch it. It’s so weird! But with cats, who knows — they might decide jute actually IS fun to shred!

Salon, I was so ready to get the orange one, but then I saw it in a reviewer’s room and it was screaming bright orange! But other review pictures looked like the one up there, more rust. So I’m just not sure, I wish I could see it! Here’s the page: Etsy Rug

Ida gave me her beautiful rug a few years ago (because she’s awesome❤️) and I’ve caught my namesake, Jinx the Cat, starting to scratch it. I might try the towel trick bl suggested.

Not sure if you are venting cat stuff (can relate!) or if you really do want to get a rug on a budget...

We have a cat, used to have catS and we live in the dirty woods. I have a real Persian rug that can handle the cat (all our animals over the years prefer to yak and have accidents on the authentic Persian rug, not the $60 walmart special right next to it). But I had to replace our $60 wm special, which I really did adore. After much head scratching and searching, I found this

on Wayfair a year or so ago. 5x9 and a matching 3x5 rug for nearby. Both for under $200 with free shipping. It came in many different color combos and also many different patterns and sizes. It's adequate quality for our needs what with woods living and cat who thinks we don't know she angry scratches it at night when we are sleeping. I put my price limits in the search engine and I sifted through about 500+ offerings. I felt pretty good about the purchase and still do. If my authentic Persian FIL saw the new rugs he would be upset, but he doesn't have to live in the woods and worry about a good rug. The new robot vacuum can handle the fringe but does do "that" to it (shown in photo). I'm fine with it. I have so many other things to clean and take care of I found out I don't care if the fringe is a little out of sorts. Anyhow, it's good enough and I don't have to worry about it between dirt and cat activities. I think we'll get quite a few years out it and when the shown side gets yucky, I'll turn it around and start fresh again with the side that lives under the ottoman and chair. :)

I love the half rug! It's bound on all sides. I am sure it could be used in some area. Maybe a reach-in closet.

Just get two of them and use some duct tape.

You know what? Now that I see the half rug is bound all around, I find myself liking it more and more. It's like still making use of something that has life left in it, and I admire that. It has a certain ... character, I guess you'd say.
