No matter how I try to arrange this room with the tinniest of chairs and sofas, I can’t seem to arrange it to where it looks appropriate for the space. Please help!

What a cute room! Can you please draw an approximate floor plan with dimensions?

Maybe furniture dimensions too, unless you are also looking for suggestions for new pieces. I love your style!!

Empty it completely then add only what you have to have . Right now it is a cluttered mess too much stuff all mismatchen and some pieces just too big Closed storage under the TV is a good way to handle all the stuff on the shelving so those can be removed the TV wall hung above that low storage cabinet along the wall where the TV is now . If you get a long enough cabinet the stero stuff can also sit on it . Then how many people need to sit here all the time ? If you post a to scale floor plan that will get you much better answers.

Would definitely suggest mounting the tv above the fireplace to get it off the floor and clear up some floor space. I was opposed to mounting a tv above the fireplace until I did it in my own home and it has worked out great! I would also suggest decluttering as much as possible. Would suggest using uniform or at least related colors to make your living room seem larger. You can add pops of color in pillows artwork, etc. Would also suggest that you concentrate on larger pieces of artwork and display pieces instead of groupings of small things. good luck!

It doesn’t matter that the furniture is blocking the bookshelves?

Is there room for the sofa to be against the wall with the hanging, or will the door hit it? Or if you moved the hanging a bit to the left of the picture so the sofa can sit under it, would that work? Then put the chair near the window.

    Nice space.

Jessica, can you retrieve a book currently? As long as there's 12" space in front of the bookshelves I think you're OK. I don't see how you can access the shelves on the right side of the FP. That is why I am recommending the TV be positioned on the opposite wall. If it is placed above the FP, no one will be able to view it.

You can use your current daybed frame or purchase what is referred to as an apartment-sized sofa, about 72" in width. There's only so much space and you want the space to be liveable. Will it always be 1969 in this room or are you planning an advance to the next century? I have been through this style period once in my life and when I was in college it was great.

I am thinking your style leans to bohemian? Open shelving with such a variety of items always looks cluttered to me. It would be different if you only had books and decor items, but with more necessary items I think shelfing that has doors would be best. It is a very cute room. Will the sofa fit on the wall with the mandella hanging?

Trust me, I wish I could totally revamp my whole decor scheme but I have no idea where to start.

Sofa won’t fit on the mandala wall unfortunately :(

I think you could do some organizing and only keep what is absolutely necessary on the shelves and just organize to look neater and cleaner, sometimes that goes a long ways. Is there enough space to fit the sofa facing the fireplace and still have a space to walk around and not impede the traffic flow?

You might be able to place the couch you have facing the fireplace, floating in the room. Once you do that, we might recommend placing the chair where the TV currently is and then hang the TV over the fireplace. Also you might try apartment sized furniture. It is smaller and easier to work with in small spaces.

Please don't put that TV over that tall fireplace. It will be most uncomfortable watching it.
