Unusual art placement/hanging

It’s the little things...I was so pleased with myself after finding a spot for this cute print. I framed this 4” art in a frilly frame and hung it in the powder room, at eye level if one is sitting on the potty. Hard to get a good pic in the tiny room, but it is centered on the wall under a large vintage mirror. (Mirror to the side of the sink bc there’s a window over the sink.)

All of our walls are pretty well covered with art but I still find little pieces of art sometimes that I can’t resist. Some are framed and propped on shelves. I’ve got one cute tiny print that I’ve simply taped up on a kitchen wall.

Please share your unusual display or hanging of art? I have at least one small print that I haven’t found a place for.

I love it! Do you have any other photos of the rest of your bathroom for us to see so we can see it in its overall surroundings? What a great print!!! It is so happy, whimsical and lively.

So charming, Sue! It’s perfect there.

Ida, love all your art so much!

Do guitars count? It was more necessity because small music room/office, but I love them. :)

ETA: Forgot about my bathing lady. I put her over the bathroom window so I could see her best. Bad lighting!

And my little wooden card my DD had made for me, it’s over my nightstand (which I’m about to refinish) ...

Not a great picture, but I put a large metal tile piece over an oil painting in my dining room. The tile is old but has colors that are similar to the painting--golden, orange, and black.

kkay, I’m very envious of your window seat. Love it, it looks so cozy and comfortable!

I love the art and the placement! Unexpected is what really makes things pop and get noticed.

I love art in unexpected places. This is a canvas titled Bon Appetite.Actually it’s the artist homage to Julia Childs, she gave him permission to paint it as long as “The Girls “weren’t showing on her. It’s in a bathroom

I saw a photo recently of a bathroom with the walls and ceiling covered in framed paintings. Some on the ceiling were heavily framed. It sounds weird but it strangely didn’t look odd at all. I guess the home owner wanted to see beauty while soaking in the tub.

Just part of the artwork shows up on my phone. Trying again

I have a question. I want to move a small piece into our master bath. Have any of you ever had trouble with steam affecting a piece? Most of our art is vintage and this is one I am especially fond of and would hate to damage. We do have a large piece already in that bathroom and it has been fine.

Jinx I have always (kind of) wanted a violin to hang/display!

Tina, as you can see, I have a lot of original art hanging in our master bath, where I shower daily. I always run the vent fans in the space (there are two) when the shower is on, and I've not noticed any degradation to the artwork whatsoever. If I were you, I'd go ahead and hang the vintage piece where you want to, and just keep a close eye on it. It will in all likelihood be fine. I have come to the conclusion that I want to enjoy my art where I want to enjoy it, and not worry too much about what could happen to it over time. Over time, I'll be dead, and nothing I have is extremely valuable anyway. ;-)

Tina, I saw an old violin in an antique store and wanted it so much! But it was pricey. I really love how they look. :)

I’ve never had any issue with steam and art, even in small bathrooms. My bathing lady is nearly over the shower and has been fine. In our smaller hall bath (was DD’s), I have framed and canvas art, no issues.

Thank you ladies. We do of course run a fan. It's the Mr's long steamy showers that are the problem! LOL The piece is in our bedroom there and I'm wanting to do a bit of a refresh and move some art around. I will probably more it and as Ida said, keep an eye on it.

ETA: Jinx, I don't play the violin or anything, I just think they are beautiful!

Akt, the powder room is about 3’ square so it’s not easy!

That’s my dad’s old tool box! There’s no storage in this room so it holds misc like lip gloss and floss...

Sorry, meant to say I love everyone’s pics.

Not particularly unusual, but this small original hangs above the toilet in the powder room providing a little something for those who stand.

Love everyone’s art! So special. Particularly fascinating are cran’s kitchen vignette and sue’s little lady in the powder room. Sue, is she blowing a balloon?

Nuts, I believe it‘s bubble gum. It’s by Janet Hill. I love her quirky art. I’ve got another one of her prints in our upstairs bath.

    @Sueb20 Love Janet Hill's work!

I have a small picture on the side of my mantle. It is had to see but is special because I got it when I visited Italy.

One more. Wwbungalow's sweet little picture made me think of the bits of artwork I've collected on travels that don't otherwise figure into my "main" decor. I've hung a lot of those things in my closet, such as this little cottage needlepoint picture. I picked it up in a charity shop in the seaside town of Sheringham, Norfolk (England) a few years back. There's so much work in it, and I gave a whopping 5GBP for it. I think it's quite sweet. Not the greatest picture of it - sorry.

ETA: I also have some little prints picked up in Cornwall that are actually kitchen-related, but I hung them in my closet anyway. Oh, and I framed the Valentine I received from DH this year, because it's cute!

Bathroom art! I say there are no rules with bathroom art. These are greeting cards I bought probably 20 years ago in LA, years before I ever owned an MCM home. I finally framed and hung them in the hall bath last year.

What lovely rooms with interesting ideas for art placement!

Sue, thanks for sharing the rest of your bathroom. I love how you used the tool box. That is great! Rooms that hold meaning, memories and using something that is unexpected created such uniqueness and warmth. I love it all!!

Sueb, I love your print and you've found a perfect spot for it!

I love everyone's art! I also have a collection of originals and prints in one of my bathrooms. :O) My current favorite is this 'Busy Bodies' print that's hung to reflect in the medicine cabinet mirror. lol! I saw it at an artist's opening exhibit and just had to have it -- there's something about these bodies that charms me.

I am glad I'm not the only one who buys art and then tries to find a spot for it, versus buying art to fill a particular spot.

I have probably 4 paintings/prints without a home, and I need to get a little more creative in finding places to display them.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer. but @Sueb20 after you showed the second pic, I think the picture is a little small for the spot. Could you do a grouping? I love your dad's tool box in the bathroom. You will laugh at this, but we have a pedestal sink like yours, but it is sitting in our guest room - in two pieces. Yep. We did a little work in the bathroom and took the sink out. I guess I could put it on Market Place. I would like to donate but not sure who would take it.

I am glad I'm not the only one who buys art and then tries to find a spot for it, versus buying art to fill a particular spot. Precisely why I have a large painting propped up in the floor of our master bedroom. It is a lady playing a piano. I fell in love with the painting when I saw it and it hung in our guest bedroom for a while, but never felt/looked right. I replaced it in that room and had it put away for a year or so. I'm thinking it will work in our bedroom, just not sure if it's too large for over the bed. Out comes the cardboard or brown paper. LOL I do have another wall in that room it can hang on if over the bed doesn't work.

I collected art once. I have too much of it now, if that’s possible (LOL). And so, this home of ours has lots of art hung in odd places. In our guest bathroom, over the door; over the linen cab; on the linen cab!

Even the narrow smidge of a wall in our MBR foyer. DD’s plaster handprint from kindergarten and a small oil painting that have nothing in common except that I love them and they’re both small.

Or, behind the door in our laundry room (LOL)! DD made the giraffe head in middle school, but didn’t want it hung in her bedroom. I love it.

Here's a photo from my water closet in Cathedral City:

This is also the only print in the house. I hung a mirror beside it to make the W/C seem larger. The toilet is right below the print. The other walls have paintings of underwater scenes with fish.

This is such a great thread. I've been following because my walls currently are bare (recent move). I'm going around my house identifying where I will most enjoy my current art, and where I can add more. Lots of inspiration here.

Pamghatten, your grandparents' art is really special and beautiful.

What a wonderful thread! You folks have STYLE. Sueb, that frame and print are perfection. I admire your eye and love your wall colour again. Is that lilac? (I have no unusual art placement unless you count leaning against the wall because I'm too indecisive. :P)
