Suggestions for how to improve the curb appeal of this house?

The location of this house is perfect for us, but the look and curb appeal is lacking and the roofline is strange. The front of the house faces north. Any suggestions for improving the overall curb appeal?

please ignore the dog - I asked him nicely to move out of the picture, but he decided to give me a piece of his mind ;)

May be some pergola or portico in front of house?

Doing something substantial at your front door would make a big improvement. All the glass now is making it compete with your front window and feel insignificant.
Hard to tell with the snow, but beautiful shade loving plants and greens by the front door/walkway area. Not sure where you are, but hostas and hydrangeas do well in shade.

Cute house. A portico would be nice. Large light fixtures, too.

For one thing, keep the garage doors closed except when leaving and entering .

Can you show us a photo with the garage door closed?

A path to the front door would make it more prominent. Don't worry about the roofline. It's not your house's best feature, but it's fine. There's probably little you can do to improve it that would make financial sense.

Focus on landscaping and take pics when stuff is in bloom (if your landscaping is pretty nice) and when your house isn't shaded.

I love Celery's suggestion of a pergola. A small entry porch might work as well. Would love to see what type of garage door you have. Garage doors make a tremendous impact on a fascade. Would definitely suggest a landscaping plan that will accentuate the positives and help hide the negatives. Good luck!

As someone else pointed out earlier, your garage lights are undersized. Something more substantial will help. I see you have a nice little seating area outside your front door. Very nice.
Really, I think you'll get the improvement your looking for if you beef up your front door and add more substantial lights on your garage and at your front door.
Colorful flowers will also help. This is just a tough time of year to see pretty.

    Good luck and post updates.

Thank you all so much! I did add a picture of our house with the garage door closed. We live in Michigan, and I should mention that we will be replacing the concrete stoop and sidewalk. It seems like a great time to nail down a good design before we commit to new concrete.

Your structural suggestions and pictures are inspiring. The point about using the landscape to hide and highlight is precisely what we've been thinking. I'll be reaching out to an architect and landscape designer very soon. We welcome any additional suggestions. Thanks again!

I assumed that I just missed the photo showing the garage door. I would give serious consideration to replacing it as it is currently very plain and lacks any interesting detail. Would suggest that if you do replace you select one with lites (windows) as part of the design. Since your house is more contemporary in style would suggest a garage door to compliment. Good luck!
