Choose a dozen inspiration photos of living rooms that you love. Add them to your ideabooks or post them here. Since there is no color in this room at all, are you interested in an off white or would you prefer more color?

I would prefer an off white/ light color I think as the house has dark browns colors right now and the sofa is dark as well. Just not sure about the wall behind the Sofa. Maybe a nice wall paper...... don't know if that would be too much

I would go with lighter warm color not fighting with floor (white /off-white).

Not particular color, you might want to try a sample of Edgecomb gray BM/Alaskan Skies BM or even lighter

You might glean some ideas and direction by looking through this site.

Are you planning on re-painting ceiling, trim and doors. Do you know that color that was used on the ceiling, trim and doors.

Two whites next to each other that have different undertones can look really bad, so this is an important first piece of information.

The other thing to keep in mind is the direction you want to go. What are your favorite colors, what color art and accents will bring you joy. You want a white that works well with the floors, with the trim and doors and will work well with the colors you love.

Trims and doors a big yes!

Ceiling, trim and doors are white

I'd do the walls, trim and doors all the same color but in different sheens to make it look modern. Otherwise your trim and door details will be highlighted which aren't so "modern."

White is a very non-descript answer. If you put Greek Villa next to Extra White they may not look good - one will look blue or the other yellow in comparison. Each white has an undertone and some work together and some don't.

That helps a lot! I need to check on that. I can paint the doors and trims in same color as walls as someone suggested. Thank you so much everyone!!!!

That living room is connected to this other area we will paint on same color

Also, any suggestions on what light fixture we should get for the entrance? That one is so old style.

Your home has impressive ceiling heights! Your rooms have a lot of volume to them and you need to think big when making purchases. Is the entry ceiling height the same as the dining room? How tall and wide is the entry?

Same high as the dinning room 15’ to 16’

It appears that with the windows above the door that the chandelier would be seen from the outside? If so, then the style of your exterior also has to come into play when considering a chandelier.

You don’t see it from the outside as there is a wall blocking the view.

You have nice moldings so keep those the bright white you have, and paint the walls a slightly darker white so you keep some contrast. I wouldn't paint it all the same color. You can look at samples up against the moldings and floor tiles. Your house will really be transformed with a lighter color.

If you want a more modern look, then paint the walls, ceiling & trim all the same color. Flat on the walls & ceiling & semigloss or satin on the trim. The change in sheen provides a subtle difference even though they are the same color. It's hard to recommend an exact color based on your tiny photos, but if your floors are travertine, try BM Ballet White. I have a travertine floor in a bathroom & used Ballet. White on walls, ceiling & trim & it looks very nice.

Bright white mouldings look pretty if you are going for a traditional look.

I don't know what colors you love, but I just took colors from your art, lightened the walls and added a few pillows and a bigger, brighter area carpet.

I will get a more modern art piece. No sure what.... but something more modern. I love how that piece goes with pillows and rug. I like blues/ sages. I was thinking on a light rug as well. Thank you so much for all the great ideas.

Consider a larger floor lamp for that corner so it takes up some of that corner. And adding a side table and lamp on the other end will help frame that wall and whatever art you end up with.

    Maybe an mulit-head arc lamp.

I don't know what size you need but if you order a rug on-line, always order the smallest size available so if you have to return it, it won't cost you much in shipping and so much easier to return. Plus, there is probably a good chance you'll find another place to use it anyhow.

Very excited to start the project soon! Love all the ideas and pictures you are sharing. Thank you so much. I will get a bigger rug and modern picture for that wall. I still trying to figure what kind of light fixture to put on the entrance. Any ideas or pictures would be great. Here is the picture again of the entrance connected to Living room. It is very old style and don’t know what to do with those arc shapes on the wall. I will paint all same color as living room.

Have you considered having those niches drywalled over? With the change in style you are doing to this house, it may make sense to do that.

As far as your entry fixture I almost feel that your dining room fixture should be there! But I'm guessing you don't want to go through rehanging that again!

That is a good option to drywalled over. I didn't think on that before. Thank you for your ideas!!! About the entry fixture I thought about changing it to the entrance but it is so heavy and too much work to do that. I will keep looking for something....

It may be worth moving the fixture if you exhaust all possibilities of one for the entry and IF you
happen to come across something instead for the DR. So might keep that in mind as you look.

I'd keep the arches that belong with your style of home, but when you re-paint, paint the alcoves the same color as the walls. You can leave them bare, or use vertical art that better fits the openings.

When I ordered my last area rug I found the carpet I wanted, did a google image search, found it was for sale by a dozen different stores under at least 1/2 a dozen different names and as many prices. I ordered it from Bed Bath and Beyond so that I could return it locally and would not have to pay for return shipping. It got here - I liked it. I ordered it from the least expensive seller and took the other one back to BBB. I did call BBB first and let them know that I had ordered a carpet from them and was planning on returning it because it was less elsewhere, but they would not match the price, so I had to return it.
