Stainless Steel Backguard or No Backguard?

We are renovating our kitchen.. we’ve purchased a 36” Jennair Rise Pro-Style Range and Vent Hood.

The vent hood has integrated heat lamps.

We cannot, for the life of us, decide if we should also get the stainless steel backguard with shelf. It seems it would be a great solution, especially since the shelves are integrated and would be useful for the headlamp.

Does anyone have a SS Backguard? Love it? Hate it? Regret it? Recommend it?

Or, does anyone have any other creative solutions for easy-to-keep-clean shelving that can be used with the heat lamps?

Thanks JuneKnow! I will check with my contractor, but I believe this wall will need to be fire-rated anyway because it abuts the garage.

We have the high shelf back guard on our Bluestar range. A back guard is required. We do not have heat lamps. If you have heat lamps and plan to use them then get the stainless back guard with shelves. Kills two birds with one stone.

I am in the same spot, I am not sure I will like a backguard thou. my wall is fire rated but I know I want the look to be clean and back guard seems industrial to me.

Fire rated and non-combustible are two different meanings and constructions. Fire rated establishes requirements on the time it takes for fire to get through the wall. Non combustible, in the sense of the International Mechanical Code, par. 308, means that the materials will not support fire, ever.

Your range's installation guide will specify distance to the wall vs. construction and/or back guard use, so you won't have to attempt to understand IMC Table 308.4.2.

Yes, stars26... I’m with you. Part of me loves the industrial look, the other part loves a clean/minimal/modern look. So conflicted!
