Need help improving curb appeal for my dark brick home

Moved into our first home earlier this year, and although I really like the interior, I feel the exterior could really use some updating. I am not a big fan of brown brick with brown siding, a brown roof, and a brown garage--just too much brown. On top of that, the porch and landscaping could use some help as well, both of which I plan on working on this spring including possibly planting a tree in the middle of the yard. I am thinking we will eventually get a darker roof and paint the trim and garage a darker color in order to add some contrast. I would appreciate any ideas

because I have not seen a lot of homes with brick as dark as this! Thank you!

I don't find it to be either too dark or too brown!

I'm not always a fan of the "remove the shutters" crowd, but in this case they add nothing and the center arched window - which should be a feature - is sadly disguised by the unnecessary shutters. So I'd remove them and consider painting the siding in more of a high contrast - sage green or slate blue. White for any trim. Keep the garage door as close to the same color as the brick as possible - it helps if you can 'disappear' it rather than make it stand out even more :-) Beef up the porch posts and add landscaping.

I agree the brick is fine but the shutters need to go. I actually think the current siding color with the roof and brick is nice. Garage door should be the same color to pull focus away from it. You want more focus at your front door/entry area. At some point you might think about a garage door with windows across the top. That can add interest and help break up the "wall." Larger light fixtures for the garage and front door would be nice. As gardengal suggested, beef up the posts and maybe the same for the window trim once the shutters are gone.

Though this is an entirely different house, it gives you an idea of how the sage green gardengal mentioned could work with brown brick (or stone, in this example).

I also really like the brick color. I think it would be beautiful with black windows. Or even black trim if thats not in the budget right now. Remove shutters. Black doors. Remove storm door if you don’t use or need. Freshen Landscape and beef up the porch posts. Great house!!!!

Yes to the above plus, replace the pencil posts on the porch with 8x8 square ones. Spread the center ones out to be a frame for your front door, not a blockade. They appear too close together in the photos. Get the gravel and shrubbery our of your beds, and get a local pro to help you landscape the home with more airy plantings, requiring no trimming or hedge shears, placed in larger beds. Take a new walk straight from the front entrance to the street. Enlarge your lantern lights to be 1/3 of the front door's height. Looks like your garage has settled some on the right side. Be sure it is adequately repaired. As for paint, I would try to match the siding to the warmer tone of the garage door.

I'd remove the shutters and install more substantial columns. Also paint the garage door and accent above to match the siding...or white...
