Lighting for Living and Dining Rooms

last month

Our living room has a 2-story sloped ceiling and no hard-wired lighting whatsoever. The adjoining dining room has a slightly lower sloped ceiling and is lit by a not-very-bright chandelier. During the day the area gets a (very) little amount of afternoon sun, while it’s more like a crypt after sundown.

I was thinking of putting some recessed lights in the living room and centering and replacing the chandelier, but I have a lot of questions. Does that seem sufficient? What type of recessed lights work best with a sloped ceiling? How many lights? Would track lights be better? Get two pendants instead of a chandelier?Or something else entirely?

I’d love to hear any and all ideas. I’ve attached a few pictures to give you an idea of the space.
