Sofa in front of fire place??

I need living room layout ideas. Our living room has a funky layout and I need some ideas on where to place our sofa. Here is what our living room looks like. There is hallway on either side of the living room. I’ve included some options that I’m thinking of trying out. Our sofa is a rounded reclining 6 piece sectional. The one that would work best included putting the sofa against the fire place (the fire place doesn’t work) so we never use it. Obviously design wise I don’t think it would work. Putting our sofa on the other side of the living room by the bay windows could work but it’s a small area. Give me all your opinions!

    can we see this sofa?

    where is the tv going?

visually, it's never a good idea to block the one focal point in the room, even if it doesn't work.

still need to see this sectional though

putting the sofa on the wall directly across from FP, an area rug, a few chairs on either side, coffee table or ottoman is how I would space it

or, two small sofas facing each other (layout only, not design here)

We have a tv stand that we LOVE. But could also mount it if we needed too

You didn't ask -- but checking with you if the fp is ever repairable?

Some kind of table could be by the windows/ behind the sofa? with 2 lamps [which look inviting at night from the curb btw].

Can it be cornered on bay window end of room?

    Hi Bekah-

That's a nice big room, and good for you that you have a fireplace!

Can you please tell us what else beside the sectional you want to put in the room?

    Do you need an ottoman?

Do you want an ottoman as coffee table?

How many chairs do you have and what type?

    Do you have a piano?

Do you have a table you want to use for writing or a laptop use?

A game table for cards or backgammon?

Do you need bookshelves for books? Closed storage too for things like games, other entertainment paraphernalia?

Do you need space for a bar of sorts, maybe a rolling bar cart?

Do you need space for a dedicated dog bed in the living room? He/She looks to be a good size!

We used to have our couch like the photo I just liked (of the tan sectional) originally before our remodel. My biggest issue with that layout was it really cut off the second part of the living room (by the bay windows). And it also made our actual living room feel super small. There wasn’t much room to enter the living room area on either side because of where the front door is/where the hallways both are. So we couldn’t really scoot the couch out too much or it would be blocking one or the other.

Judy, I think it could be cornered by the bay windows, but I would have all the space by the fire place empty. I mean I could definitely make it a sitting room area too

Would a chaise, or chair/ottoman serve to 'surround' the fp... so it's not empty looking?

Here is a photo of the living room before I remodeled it. There is a hallway entry on either part of the living room (one to the bedrooms & one to the kitchen).

loobab, let me send you a photo of our old living room so you can see what type of furniture I am working with.

that looks nice. you remodeled the fireplace that doesn't work? do you think it will ever work again?

would you like to put something on the mantle or art above it?

you mentioned a console. would that go to the right of the FB w/the tv?

Beth, the fire place doesn’t have a chimney. When we reroof our house in a few years we were thinking about getting one put in. Aesthetically i updated the fire place to match our grey decor. I would love to keep our tv stand but I don’t think it would fit to the right of the fire place if we went with the two options we were talking about. We would have to mount it. This is all of the living room furniture I’m working with. I am 100% going to buy more once I get this couch layout figured out. Also I have a big dog grey dog bed and toy basket.
