The exhibit is in 13 cities in the US, including an extended run in San Francisco. I've not seen it yet, but I believe it is similar to the ones in France. The artistic director of this immersive multimedia exhibit co-created the Van Gogh one in Paris. I saw it at the Atelier des Lumieres in Paris, in the 11eme in 2019. You may have seen it in "Emily in Paris". I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to take my nieces there -- it is a highly accessible introduction to art, and a way to to see the same pieces from a new perspective.

There was actually a version of the Van Gogh one (different than Paris, but the same company) in an outdoor installation in a former quarry in Les Baux de Provence (Carrieres de Lumieres), not far from where Van Gogh lived and painted during his period in Arles/St. Remy. I should have gone when I was there last, as I heard it was especially great because of the juxtaposition of the light stone cliffs and the art..

Interesting. This is coming to Boston too, and it is already sold out for Sept-Nov, which seems so strange to me. I am not sure what I think about this "immersive experience." It almost seems like turning Van Gogh's art into a sort of cartoon. Not to be a party pooper -- maybe it's truly awesome.

Coincidentally, I literally JUST booked our first post-vaccine family vacay to Asheville for early June. Booked an air b&b in the mountains 15 min from downtown. So excited and yes, if our virtual friend group chooses Asheville for a destination, I will go again!

I was planning to get tickets to the Van Gogh one in Toronto last year. At one point I think they changed it to a drive-through, but by that time I had no intention of traveling. It’s here in Chicago right now, I hear it’s fantastic! I’d better get my tickets!

Astraea - it actually ended up at 114.8 degrees or 46 for us. It was unbelievable. These temps are caused by westerly winds coming from the interior so are quite dry, in fact our humidity was only 14% so it never feels quite as hot. As it started cooling down though the humidity went up. The predicted southerly hit right on time at 8pm and the temp plummetted down to the 22.4 it is now although the humidity went up to 74%, but being cool it is tolerable. Hahaha, love how you have resorted to a list of all the OLLDs and locations - proves YOU are really an OLLD!!!! Good luck with your shoot today, look forward to hearing all about it in the morning. Girls have started 1/18 but Bobbi is still AWOL - hope all is well with her.

I love it when people continue to post pictures as they are decorating! Thanks it helps to see what changes can do. I Love it. There are a couple of ideas I had when looking at the room; this is just my idea now. I think the lamp shades would look great if they were red. I have red shades and live the warm look. Last.. The white on the ceiling looks just too white .. All I the other colors are warm but the ceiling is very bright. I love of though!

I have been to Biltmore, I have not been to Hearst Castle . . . yet. I like both for different reasons. I like both architects but favor Julia Morgan. I once read a book (Building For Hearst And Morgan Voices From The George Loorz Papers) about San Siemon that compiled the correspondences between the owner (William Randolph Hearst), the architect (Julia Morgan), and the builder (George Loorz); it was fascinating. Not your typical construction project, but close.

Camp like a champ. Tap all the opportunities to make your camping adventurous. Load your cooler with ice cubes, food and drinks. A cool comfy base camp would be perfect for day hikes. You should consider the three modes of road-travel trip 1) own car and stay in hotel 2) own a small RV 3) renting a small RV. For a traditional driving vacation, use your own car, stay in hotels, and dine out. Owning a small RV would be the cheapest mode. Never take on debt to finance vacations or travel costs. Owning a small RV is a clear winner as it would let you travel for only 60-70% of traditional car plus hotel cost. While taking your kids along hit the gorgeous lookout area to ogle the rivers and mountains, the forested trails and kids' jungle gym.

I experienced the "Van Gogh Alive" exhibit at the Dali in St. Pete and I found it surprisingly moving and effective. I learned so much about his life and how his experiences affected his works. I thought the selected music added very much to the experience. For about 45 minutes people stood in silence and took it all in. Highly recommend!

ETA: And I would do it again in Asheville!

It's coming to Denver as well in the fall. I thought it was a special exhibit at the art museum but it will be in a yet-to-be-disclosed location.

I watched some videos, I hope it doesn't make me dizzy :)

We have tickets to the Atlanta Van Gogh exhibit in July. The VR experience is an add on cost, which the promo material and pictures on the site do not make clear, so buyer beware. :(
