Miele USA W1's Prewash/Soak/Add Item June 2022 Update Fix Ready

4 years ago
last modified: 3 years ago

Hi,

Machine is just a few days old. No issues until now. I was doing an Extra White Cycle with prewash. At beginning of wash portion this "Water Intake" error occurred with beeping and a drain. Got book out and there are no reasons as I can tell this happened on my end. I completed cycle with a drain/spin and then an Extra White cycle without prewash. Firmware issue? Reason I say this is where in cycle it happened. Ideas welcome.

    The real question is - does this software change require a tech? or are they doing this to make sure it works

  • 3 years ago

    This requires a tech...not sure where tech is from. I'm 90+ miles from either Tampa or Orlando.

  • 3 years ago

    I hope the tech and software update will fix your machine's problem. It really has taken too long to get this resolved, especially for what you paid for the machine.

    She just left. Loaded in and waited for prewash drain/wash fill. YAY all good.

  • 3 years ago

    I assume ’Add Laundry’ isnt throwing the water intake error either?

  • 3 years ago

    did not try yet

  • 3 years ago

    Do you have the name of someone who dealt with at Miele? They are still telling me they are working on a fix

    Had it since July 2020 and have been dealing with this issue since then. Unsuccessfully

  • 3 years ago

    @Stephen Were you able to get an appt?

  • 3 years ago

    I really appreciate this thread. I just ordered my set last week WXF660 WCS. I have no way of knowing if it shipped from the factory yet, or is in enroute. Dealer doesn't have an ETA, as the order is headed to NJ from Germany. I will be sure to check the pre-wash right after calibration to confirm it is working correctly.

  • 3 years ago

    @Mark

    The repairman came today and dowloaded the update. No more Water Intake error from ADD LAUNDRY or Prewash.

    i was kind of surprised that it went from prewash right into main wash without draining though. Is that how yours operates? This was on Normal 40.

  • 3 years ago

    My WWF060 does drain the prewash but seems like it could a little longer. Water plus no longer active unless mobile cycle used and option selected. It was always active on most cycles prior to software update I believe. My water plus is not a option within cycle options, set in other menu as before.

  • 3 years ago

    @Mark

    Water plus extra not being saved was ”fixed” by Miele a couple updates back. annoying, but at least it is still in the app.

    If ”heavy” is chosen from the soiling option the prewash will drain before the main wash.

    I am very confused, how is it a prewash if it does not drain?

    My WXR 860 always drains after a prewash although on some cycles it only drains while on others it drains and briefly spins.

  • 3 years ago

    My WXR860 drains and spins between the prewash and mainwash.

  • 3 years ago

    I'm happy to hear there is a fix and it does work. Give me hope for what I ordered.

  • 3 years ago

    does the update require a tech visit ?

  • 3 years ago

    YES final time.

  • 3 years ago

    @luna123456

    hey there - how are you privy to what changes happened with each update.

  • 3 years ago

    My "patched" WWH860 seems to drain from pre-wash to main wash, I just tested with a load on Normal 40, weird yours doesn't @Stephen.

    Agreed @Hippo, if it doesn't drain from pre-wash to main wash, that's not a pre-wash it's soak.

  • 3 years ago

    @Stephen

    I’m not privy. We just donso much laundry in my house that we notice the changes. We use a lot of the different cycles and notice changes.

  • 3 years ago

    Oh ok. Going back to updates…you said to Mark, ”Water plus extra not being saved was ”fixed” by Miele a couple updates back. annoying, but at least it is still in the app.”

    So yesterday for the first time (after the tech ins my update) i noticed Water Plus was not automatically shown included by default on the the App like usual.

    If i set my Water Plus off (hidden menu) and chose water plus in the App, should i get the extra water or no? I guess i could just test it but i am curious how yours is set. I currently have Allergy OFF. Water Plus OFF. Maximum Rinse level ON.

    I think Mark Maximum Rinse was overkill, and i kind of agree. It seems like its so much water that the suds just stay on top (if that even makes sense). I wonder if Miele ever used Spray rinses. Also its ironic that the recirculation pump only sprays on the last rinse and introduces more soap that was left in the pump. My reason for not using Water Plus is because i didnt want to pay extra to heat more water than necessary to Wash and have to use more detergent. And didnt want Allergy because that extra rinse and spin adds more time and wear to the clothes.

    End of rant. Feel free to add your opinions.

    Thanks!

    Overall my Water Plus not working across all cycles involved without an app is ridiculous. If Miele wants it this way it should be an option in a typical cycle selection easily set by "options". Newer models seem to now have this as a selectable option on machine itself from what I have read.

    Wonder how the "Water Plus" setting reacts in a W1 without Miele Home etc activated within menu. No wifi no app and Miele Home shut off. One would hope it would work right?

    @Stephen

    Yes maximum rinse level is overkill. In the case of the W1 you are creating more residual suds after all rinses using it than not. Using water plus (not extra) at max incremental setting has worked well for me. Furthermore those who use maximum rinse level best pay attention to load weight. If you are washing a heavy item it would be best to not use max rinse level. Want to use it anyway...go ahead and reduce the life of your machine. The Miele tech that was here so agrees with this analogy.

  • 3 years ago

    @Stephen

    On my WWF060 the allergen on setting in other menu gives me an extra rinse on certain cycles. Then using extra rinse gives me a 4th. The Water Plus additional water is not that much. I would not worry about heating it. Cold tap only will extend times heating, but I wash without hot tap water anyway. When I do a clean cycle I turn off cold tap only to flush out hot water line.

    Hi all,

    I received a firmware update via app yesterday and it resolved the prewash issue I had been having since purchase. The model is WWF 060 and I bought it back in 12/2020.

  • 3 years ago

    I'm dealing with Miele for my water intake error since I bought the washer last year 7/21, they replaced every single hardware piece in the washer that's replaceble. I have an email from the mid-west territory manager, where he finally admits it's a software issue. This was March 2022, I called today and they said there is no update available!!! How can I request this update? I'm so tired of going thru the same yada yada with customer service over and over again.

  • 3 years ago

    I was dealing with water intake issue since the purchase time late may 2021. Was notified that the update became available in June 2022. Had a Miele technician visit and the issue is resolved now.

  • 3 years ago

    @yvfi

    Same story here. it’s ridiculous the amount of emails, calls, and time i have spent on this issue. Bought my WWH860 in July 2020 and was finally fixed two full years later.

    The last email i sent, i cc’d the Miele USA CEO and president Jan Heck. jan.heck@mieleusa.com I also told them i know others who have had this done.

    i never did hear from Jan but a few days later i had success. if you private message me your email i can forward the email they sent me.

    Good Luck

  • 3 years ago

    Just in case it helps anyone else, a couple weeks ago the Miele app informed me about a software update for my W1 and this one fixed the cycle pause / prewash errors on my WWH660!

    I actually had an appointment scheduled with Miele (that took a lot of calls to them to get help, their customer service is wildly inconsistent) but I canceled it since the OTA update seems to have done the trick.

    If you have an affected washer it’s worth making sure you have the remote update feature enabled, and connect it to the (admittedly VERY mediocre) Miele app to see if the update becomes available that way.

    @slawra

    have you noticed any other differences since the update?

  • 3 years ago

    Acording to the Miele USA website you are supposed to be able to see what the update consisted of. i dont have that on my app (4.5.0)

    it is the most recent on the App Store

  • 3 years ago

    Ha, the update information in the app is not the most informative! I haven’t done too many thorough tests to see the changes, so far just confirmed I can pause the cycle and add laundry without triggering the fault, which was NOT the case pre-update.

  • 3 years ago

    how did you even get to that screen?

    when i go to Appliance Updates and click on either the Washer or Dryer i get this…

    Of course i do

  • 3 years ago

    That was the same thing I always saw before the app applied the update (this app is bad, but it does reliably notify me when the cycle is done so it at least deserves 1 or 2 stars 🫤). After I applied the update it now shows me the screen I sent.

    In case it helps here are my current software versions (in service menu, you can find instructions on YouTube for how to access this menu). This might differ slightly from your machine since I have the less fancy WWH660. The only ones that changed for me since the update are VarANW and EK versions (old values are shown below too).

    EPW: 5004
    LNG: 12036
    ELFU: 4198
    EZL: 3966
    EZU: 3864
    VarGT: 100206981
    VarBL: 100197929
    VarANW: 120002282 (old: 100198007)
    VarSP: 100245132
    VT GT: 100213390
    EK: 5576 (old: 5243)

  • 3 years ago

    @slawra

    hey thanks so much for taking the time to do this.

    even after my update, i still get that technical issue screen.

    my values are the same as your except the following three:

    VarGT is 100206982 vs 100206981

    VarBL is 100197930 vs 100197929

    VT GT is 100213391 vs 100213390

    But i don’t know what any of it means anyway. lol

  • 3 years ago

    @Stephen

    Since Miele updated firmware with fix for issue I turned off everything remote update/wifi/mielehome. So my question to you is an auto update after your machine was fixed now caused this issue again? Please respond.

  • 3 years ago

    Seems or seemed so.

    The day of the update i added pre-wash to the cycle and strted it. After starting the machine I noticed there was an update available on the app, so i chose to install it. Then when the pre-wash ended the Water Intake error happened.

    I then ran the same cycle again (WF + PW) and I got the error again.

    BUT today i did not get the error!

  • 3 years ago

    If you get your W1 firmware patch installed I would advise to disable Miele Home and wifi from machine period. Reset the wifi to clear it from machine then disable Miele Home. Water Plus etc will work without use of the app all the time after disabling.

    I no longer trust Miele period.

  • 3 years ago

    so can the update be performed at home without a service tech or does one benefit from a tech appointment?

    always leary of over the air updates failing and bricking my phone, appliance, etc.

  • 3 years ago

    The update is rolling out over the internet. It applied automatically for me. I use the app all tge time so no disabling for me. I think they have come a long way in the last couple years.

  • 3 years ago

    @luna123456
    you must not have had to deal with their customer service. Or lack thereof.

    If you're having trouble updating with the app. Try force quitting the app. Swipe up for iOS devices (sorry don't know about Android) and start again. I was able to get mine to update after a few tries.

  • 3 years ago

    Mark, you'll need to turn all that back on including remote update so that your machine is on and connected to the wifi.

  • 3 years ago

    Steve S , thanks. I can get to that screen and have the current version 4.5.0
    However what do you see when you tap on your appliances on That screen you posted.
    That is where I get the Technical issues page.
    I have logged out, uninstalled, cleared history.

    My WWH860 was updated by the app about two weeks ago. I never had the problem with the prewash so I wasn't sure why. I did have to rerun the Calibration program. What I noticed after? Water plus no longer automatically appears in the app as an Extra. There is less water in every fill in every program. I had previously entered the programming menu and set water plus to one water drop a few months before the update, so I went back into that menu and reset it to one drop, afterward not much difference in the water level. I entered the menu again and set the level to 2 drops. There might be a bit more water but it is hard to notice. Still less water in the machine than before the update.

    I've turned auto-update off. From now on if nothing is wrong I don't want any updates.

  • 3 years ago

    This is all good to know. I just received my machines today, finally! Of course I'm sure I have the newest app. However my washer was calibrated when they set it up and before I connected the app. I did try to scan the app for options, but while the washer is on the network and I can see how much time on the washer, it wasn't letting me program anything. I have to play with it tomorrow. I gave it a maiden voyage with some sheets I use with the dogs. I also set the detergent at 15 ml/12ml until I see. The sheets barely had suds, but I'll try a couple more loads first incase it wasn't enough to prime the hose to add the detergent.
