Need Help Selecting Backsplash Tile

We recently had our kitchen cabinets painted a sage green. Currently our backsplash is painted however, we are going to have it tiled. I have no idea which direction to go in w/ color, style or size of tile.
We will not be changing out the existing granite countertops so also need to take that into consideration.
Any suggestions/ help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

If you’re going to tile, you’ll have to remove the 4” granite backsplash. Installing a tiled backsplash over a 4” backsplash, will instantly date your kitchen. It’s a big no-no.

That granite may be hard to blend with. I’m seeing lots of pink, mixed with green on my monitor.

Thanks for the info on the granite backsplash. Good info to have - we’ll get someone to remove it.
Your monitor is displaying correctly - do you have any ideas what color tile would work?

Let me think on that. It’s dinner time here. I can say, it should be a simple subway tile, seeing how busy the stone is.

Do you have under cabinet lighting? Because, that will make a big difference in the kitchen.

Would you please take a pic from father back, so I can see the upper cabs, too?

I’m thinking you should not remove the 4 “ until you find something that can work with the granite.

Do you know the name of it? I have never seen a granite with pink in it.

Is there white in there? Are to tell. Can you post pictures further back and also of other parts of the kitchen.

Maybe a creamy white tile could work. I like green tiles but I think it would be too much green in your case. Certainly not pink.

Eld, you need to visit the statehouse in Austin! So pink.

I wouldn't have expected green to work with that counter but it's really nice! Show a bit more of the kitchen and you'll get some suggestions. Black could be stunning but it is more likely to turn the room into a lightless hole.

You don't HAVE to remove that 4". Normally one doesn't have both, but if you don't mind the look, it's fine to tile over it. Makes it easier to clean, too, if you get most of your grime on the lower portion of the backsplash. If you tile over the 4" of granite, you will be shamed on this forum, but it's okay everywhere else. :)

Yes, the counter does have white - also grey. The pinkish color is kind of a dusty - greyed down pink. And after looking at the counter again, I don’t see the green I thought was there.
There is no light under the cabinets, but we’ve talked about adding it.
    Will add additional photos.

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas - no, the paint isn’t pink - must be the lighting. It’s actually kind of a light gray beige.
We’ve only lived here 2 years and most things are open for change!
    Again, thanks!

Your granite looks like Tan Brown, a very common granite from 20 years ago. Whatever you decide, don't combine it with mosaic with multiple colors, or travertine...those were popular choices back then. I would want to go with a larger scale, solid color tile to calm down the stone. The sage green is cute!

What paint colour are the cabinets? PS- I would also consider tiles that pull out the lighter neutral in the counter, maybe that would be a beige or maybe off white.
