Bathroom vanity replacement dilemma in fawn beige bathroom

Doing a partial bathroom update by replacing the vanity, medicine cabinet mirror and lights. Need help with vanity selection. May replace fawn beige toilet with bisque but floor tile and bath will stay fawn beige. I am considering a medium brown vanity with a bisque sink or a bisque vanity. I am very challenged trying to make the space look cohesive and am concerned if I choose a brown vanity and get a new bisque toilet, the toilet will look out of place. SHOULD I CHOOSE A BISQUE PAINTED VANITY OR BROWN?

The wall color in the photo is off because it is white not blue.

Many thanks to everyone for your help in my design dilemma!

Is all the tile and tub/toilet/countertop the same color now? Hard to tell from the pic.

I think the room could use some contrast. What about a really dark vanity or something in a complementary color? You could tie in the color with a new shower curtain. I wouldn't change the toilet if you aren't replacing the bathtub. Are you getting a new sink and countertop?

I would not change the toilet if not changing the tub. You need to add some contrast and interest in the space to offset so much beige. I am suggesting a color vanity paired with a wallpaper

    This would be option 1

Do a navy vanity and find a fun shower curtain that picks up the navy. I used to design shower curtains during the fawn faze back in the 80's.

How about a sage green or a grey vanity with a pivot mirror❣️

I would keep the toilet and tub get a contrasting vanity, blue, gray, dark brown but make sure your vanity counter top and sink blends well with the fawn beige.

We saved some money by painting our vanity and getting new hardware. They don't make mid-level large vanities like they used to!

I agree to use a dark color on the vanity and keep the tiles and fixtures beige. Navy and beige or dark green and beige go great together! Then use towels, shower curtain and other accessories in the same color as the vanity to bring the room together and provide some contrast to the light beige.

I am somewhat flummoxed by the fact that ,because of poor performance, I may really need a new toilet. This would introduce a totally new color, most likely bisque, because I think white would stick out like a sore thumb. The tile floor, tub tile, tub and toilet are all fawn beige now. The room is small and though I do love the suggestion of contrast with a dark vanity, I am concerned make the space feel closed in. So, if necessary to change the toilet, how would that effect my choice of of vanity? I don’t want to add navy because I prefer a more neutral color. I am leaning toward bisque or brown. Do you all think that a bisque toilet would look out of place with a brown vanity and fawn beige everything else?

Would a bisque vanity look better? I wish I could get rid of the fawn beige but I am updating all 3 bathrooms at the same time.

    I greatly appreciate everyone’s suggestions!

Personally I don't care for any brown in a bathroom.

Can you wait until you finish the other two bathrooms? Maybe do a full on renovation at a later date? You could get a white toilet now, and wait on all the other items until you have the funds. That's what I would do.

I wish I could wait but the plumbing in that bathroom is corroding so it must be done first.

First navy is considered a neutral. So would be a gray green if you prefer to go that direction.

Brown and bisque is bland and blah. It will add nothing with all that fawn color. A navy will NOT make the room look smaller. In fact, it will do the opposite. Brown and bisque will be too much the same and close the room in more.

If you have to change the toilet what color will you be making the fixtures when you can redo the whole bathroom? While a white toilet may stick out a bit, if you add a navy/white shower curtain along with a navy vanity with white sink, I think you'll be fine.

If you need to address this bathroom first because the pipes are corroding, then you probably should address this bathroom first. And how are you going to replace all the plumbing while keeping the tub and all the tiles? Can you put off doing one of the other bathrooms? Doing 3 bathrooms at one time is quite disruptive and expensive. But that's my opinion, and how I would do it myself and advise my clients. Do it once and do it right, not piecemeal.

There could be 'bathroom simple' look with canvas art yeh over toilet, etc.. to bring neutrals in. I happen to like peach- muted desert- sea colors... you?

Lay white clothes under vanity to approximate with flooring [as opposed to stained vanity].

Blue is interesting too, neat and trim, sort of tailored color combo...

Angels, it's worth your time to add ideabooks that you've started... what do you like with your neutral?

I need to correct my statement about the pipes corroding as it is only in the sink area not the whole bathroom. The contractor told me he thought the whole shebang would only take about 4 days. I guess the bottom line is that anything will be better than what I have now. I am leaning toward brightening it up with some white and maybe replacing the toilet (which doesn't always cooperate) first. At least then, I will see what effect that has on the room.

Thank you all very much for helping me gain some perspective.

Faced with a similar color scheme & limited budget, I painted the vanity the same color as the walls, purchased a new shower curtain in very muted color block, bought some big, fat porcelain shower hooks and jazzed it up with great Restoration Hardware knobs, pulls, towel rods & toilet paper holder. I put in a plain & simple picture with a little color. That hardware splurge made the whole thing look great.

If needing to replace your toilet and then opting for white, you can resurface the tub in white, no need to replace it. I would paint your vanity a fun color and tie your accessories to that color. Or strip the varnish and restain a darker stain. Add some wooden details or black or gold accents and it will look updated and fresh.

I think simple is best here, and using a white toilet and new white vanity and sink give you the most flexibility. Go nuts with a shower curtain, and when you get tired of one, it’s a quick and easy change to another look. The shower curtain that has black in the design suggests black accents, but the curtain is where you can set the style.

I would not add more brown. Replace toilet with basic white. Start with vanity. I would do a rich slate, navy or teal blue - or - black. Add a nice coordinating rug and shower curtain. I would not paint walls white, but a light warm tone or you could add a chalky blue green if you do the black vanity. If this bath is not used frequently, a bold wallpaper could be really nice, though wallpaper doesn’t hold up quite as well if you shower every day.

I am surprised how good the bathrooms look with partial renovations. I went to a highly regarded kitchen and bath showroom yesterday and was told they only do complete remodels. They did not want to be associated with a half job. I left. I really liked all the pictures everyone sent. I would love to see a picture of Sonja’s bathroom since it was similar to mine.

Again, I thank you all very much.

I have a guest bath which was rather dated but I couldn't afford
to gut it. So I decided to work w/the beige toilet, tub & tub
tiles. The floor was original 80's linoleum which I replaced w/a patterned fun tile. I found a lovely dbl cabinet w/counter top AND undermounted rectangular sinks @ Home Depot "on-line only" all, including shipping, for only $899. I felt it was a risk not seeing it, but it is really nice. I have teal/aqua towels, orange
Towels, and white towels, which I switch out at will.

Cab is brown (bath is large) counter is creamy, sinks are white.
& look great not being beige. If needed, I will fing pix to send.

I'd get the white toilet and resurface the tub. Add a white sink and a painted vanity- I think teal or a softer version of teal or green would look nice. Then tie in that color with the shower curtain. Walls can stay light neutral and then a piece of art to tie in a all the colors (landscape would be nice if you went with a green color for vanity)

Getting a white toilet makes my design dilemma much easier to solve and probably less expensive. I can get a white sink and it won’t look out of place. Today I placed both white and biscuit swatches next to the fawn beige tile. The biscuit color was not complementary and did nothing to brighten the place. This was so hard for me to see without everyone’s help. I am still uncertain about the cabinet color. I am considering white or medium brown.

With a white or color block shower curtain, the tub won’t be visible and everything would be tied together. I can’t thank everyone enough for your help. If this wasn’t the time of COVID I could ask a friend for a second opinion. Wow, I’ve had way more than a ‘second’ opinion! I no longer feel paralyzed by this process. You are all the best!

I vote for a black vanity, nickel hardware, white shower curtain, white rug & towels. I think the fawn, black & white combo is beautiful. As someone recommended for me, add a green plant. If I didn’t have a black thumb, I would have. Also, you can add a modern bold picture. I don’t mind your fawn color, as I think u can work with it. My floor tile is much worse, but I recently did a little update & actually love my bathroom now. Good luck!

As the OP said this forum is so helpful!! Seems like the problem is solved with white toilet and white vanity top, not sure I would have figured that out. I love the pictures from Theresen and really think the dark navy or black cabinet would look great. Not a fan of one brown item along with the fawn. Please post a picture when you finish!!

I should have tried this a while ago for you. Here’s a white sink, toilet, and curtain, with a black vanity! Well, squint a little. It does help to visualize that combination. Hope it helps.

I don’t like the combination of fawn beige and bisque. A white toilet and sink/counter will not clash with the fawn beige...it will ‘contrast’ but it will not clash. You could use a natural wood vanity or a painted vanity.
