Large Art (not words)

A single piece of art may be all you need. Hang it low, so that it forms a unit with the table and chairs:

Try that first. If it still seems a bit bare, you could consider papering the protruding part of the wall, perhaps in a trellis pattern. You could also paint it -- a decorative paint effect might work well. Depends on what will go with the rest of the room.

Maybe some black and white photography (of your own?) in sleek black frames, big white matting? Hard to tell without seeing it from further back

how about adding some paintings or pictures?

I would use that narrow bump out for a pice of art chosen for that excact space . I would however like to see that space from further back to see the kitchen .

Arrange framed black and white pictures vertically on narrow section and play around with layout on larger side.

Mount short picture ledges on the bump out and place plates on the ledges. Then come up with a different layout of plates for the wall

Above the chairs, you could add "related" items to the different parts of the wall:

Honey bees and honey comb images for the center bump out and then add honey comb shelves for the right (indented) side of the wall, with the shelves being approximately the same depth as the center bump out: You could add a jar of honey and S&P shakers to the shelves -- actually useful for a breakfast seating set.

Lower half of the wall:

Would you be wanting to de-emphasize the vertical bump out ... such as by creating a horizontal visual as wainscoting and chair rail as high as the backs of the chairs could provide? It could be painted the same color as the wall for a more subtle effect. Since the bump out is not deep, you could even "fill in" on each side of the bump out to create a wall before adding the wainscoting on the bottom half eliminating the bump out feature from that bottom half.

I do feel like paints or shelves on color block walls might work but that indentation is throwing me off and I am at a loss of ideas

I edited my post and added some honey bee shelves and other bee options as well as a possible way to "straighten" the bottom half of the wall. There are other shallow shelf options here, too.

-- and probably a lot more if you do the searching. If you are DIY incllned, as long as the shelf is shallow like the bump out / indent, you could choose your own shape and material from which the shelves are made.

There are other kinds of "shallow decorative shelving" if bees don't buzz your joy. :-)

You could add a short wood ladder as a shelf -- and add S&P and/or spices and/or honey or cream&sugar, etc.

If you choose a "rope swing" idea: I have a wood cut out of a girl on a swing. The girl is the back of and above the shelf; the shelf is the swing on which she sits and her knees and legs are on the front of the shelf and the shallow shelf between the girl and her legs has a rope thru holes on each end of the shelf/swing from which the piece hangs. This was a gifts from a relative and likely intended as yard ornament.

Unless you want to emphasize the bump out, would not add art to ONLY the bump out. In fact, if the objective is to de-emphasize / minimize the bump out, then my personal preference would be to ONLY add interesting eye-catching shaped shallow shelving to the right side -- painted the same color as the wall but in the shape you prefer.

I would put art on either just the wall to the right of the bump out, OR on the bump out itself, but not both. Either can work depending on the size of art that you find. Don't color block which would emphasize the bump out, and no shelves that will stick out.

I liked the idea of shelving. And some plates. Or something else if that’s not your taste. Maybe plants...

Shelving would stick out right where your head is while sitting at the table.

If the shelving is no deeper than the bump out, then it shouldn't be an issue. Any deeper, however, and that could present a problem.
