Nope! I hate that kind of setup too and there are only upsides to correcting it.

Thank you! DH hates change so was trying to tell me there must be “some reason” the builder put the door there back in 1989. As I understand it, it involved removing the door, the trim/casing. Then putting new framing in the old doorway, at the bottom and vertically. Then putting one side of drywall, insulation, the other side of drywall, floating, drying and then prepping for paint. Is that about right? I’m pretty sure the company I use for painting can do all that.

I agree close off the door from the bedroom. If you post a to scale floor plan it always helps .As for the actul process usually painters are not going to do the real work .I would like to see the plan and see if there is a better solution for the space once the door is gone.

There probably was "some reason". That doesn't mean that reason is applicable to your needs.

I would close up the bedroom door. I stayed in a house with a bathroom like that. Someone would alway lock both door when using the bathroom, but forget to unlock the one of the door when they were done. Or they would only lock the door they used and someone would walk in on them from the other door.
