Can these tiles coexist in an open concept kitchen and livingroom?

Hi all,
I recently pulled the trigger and bought 25 square feet of angora Herringbone tile for our fireplace surround and am wondering if it is too busy or modern for the space? We redid our kitchen cabinets a few years ago and didn't redo the backsplash to save some money....I wish we did. Either way it would probably damage the cabinetry to replace it so for now it stays. Can I put the herringbone around the fireplace and have the travertine on the other side of the same room, or should I opt for the safer and blander porcelain slab tile for the fireplace...? The slab tile is in the fireplace photo. Any honest feedback would be helpful! Thanks!
