Recent private messages

I have received 2 private messages here in the last 2 days. Both reference information that I posted in two different threads on a different forum - different topics - so there is a tinge of validity to the messages. But both are VERY old threads, both messages are from people with no activity history and names I've never seen on any forum. One goes so far as to request photos to show how I handled the issue in question and I don't believe you can include photos in a Houzz message although I've never tried.

There's an option to report as SPAM but of course I'm reluctant to point a finger at what may be legit OTOH I don't want to respond.

Anyone else getting odd messages?

No and I would not trust them just to be safe.

I agree with Spanish. I’d report them. If they are legit, they can sort it out later.

Out of all the threads on all the forums in all of Houzz they stumble onto my posts! ;-)

Someone once messaged me to tell me my comment wasn’t following the rules for that thread. Really annoyed me, but not so much to report it.

I don’t have the messaging option turned because I had to sign up with a wonky email I never use. Definitely report those messages!

You could provide the information they want on the threads that they are referencing, if you are inclined to respond.

I don't see a risk from replying via HOUZZ private messaging. They are not going to obtain any personal information about you.

I'd just ignore the messages. Why "report" them if you don't know if they're legit or not?

Ded tired if I get a message it shows up in my notifications under the bell so you don't have to check an email - just FYI.

graywings I'm not tech savvy enough to know what someone could find out about me if I replied as opposed to what they could find from a regular post - I'm sure you're right and someone on a mission wouldn't need me to respond. As for replying on the old posts....I'd have to search to find them and honestly, I'm not that interested!

2katz that's exactly what I was thinking - don't want to tattle on someone legit.

I have received two recently from people wanting information on tiles that I posted.

    They were recent.

I agree to not answer from strangers from an old post.

I have received a message from an unknown (brand new) user asking for cuttings of a patented rare rose. I have posted a photo in an old thread. I did answer her with a no.

If you're inclined to, I agree with answering in the old post, saying "Someone requested this info privately so I am posting it here" (to explain why you're resurrecting an old thread).

Has anyone else noticed Houzz provides a feed of 'More Discussions' in the sidebar on the right? Many of those can be quite old and I'm sure plenty of people click on the ones that spark their interest without realizing how old they are. I've done it myself.

There have been a LOT of threads coming back from the dead recently on both Kitchens and Home Decorating. Some seem innocuous. Some seem like someone looking for answers on a topic who resurrected every old thread on the subject before posting their own question. Some are just baffling.

I'm just going to let the messages be, not going to report but not going to respond. Had the threads themselves been resurrected I would have been notified and responded to a question directed at me. Shame to be suspicious - people are damned for bringing old threads to the surface then not responded to in a private message. But both messages remind me a bit of some of the online market scams - almost legit but something is off.

DLM, thanks. Got messages and private emails mixed up.
