Suggestions of what to plant along this spot?

Hi folks,

Never posted here but thought I'd rely on some group ideas rather than go it alone like I usually do!

I planted a line of Areca Palms along our western fence. These are about 3 years old and now quite tall. I'd like to just let them keep going up and so the base of them is thinning out and I can see the fence again.

Any suggestions of what to plant in a row in front of this row of Arecas? That spot gets lots of water and some from about 1030 am to about 4:30 pm and is super sandy.

I was then going to lay a path in front of water I plant in front of the arecas then on the other side of the path something low and colorful (between that path and the pool enclosure). Something low and colorful to be seen from inside the pool. You can see this particular patch of grass is consistently dried out so not much water there and again quite sandy.....would love and appreciate any ideas!

when asking about plant suggestions.. your location is imperative ... big city name ...

though i am pretty sure that aint michigan .. lol ...

ps: and no matter what you plant .. you will have to water it better than the grass .. until it becomes established.. and hopefully more drought tolerant than the grass .. and the sand wont make it simple to water enough ...

I'm in SouthWest Florida near Fort Myers.

I'm about to enter "the growing season" where it rains like mad every single day so it's the ideal time to plant to get established.

How about Strelitzia reginae (bird of paradise) to keep with the tropical theme? I'm not familiar with growing them (and I hear they are overused in some parts of the country) but it's easy and colorful.

Look at "Plumbago", one of my favorite soft, rich blue blooming plants. Unless hit by frost it blooms all year and the color is striking. Butterflies love it too.

It's easily maintained at the height you want, grows in sandy soil and is usually a happy, cheerful adition to a sunny location.
