Depends. 1. Are you set on having a fruiting vine?

2. Does it need to be native?
3. If yes to #2, what does “native” mean to you - i.e., NAN, MI native, regionally native, etc., and would you consider cultivars of native plants or not? I know some people don’t.
4. Are you okay with deciduous (or even annual) vines or do you want something evergreen?
5. What’s the exposure in re to sunlight & wind? Especially important if considering evergreen vines.
6. How much weight can they take & what are the dimensions?

A bit off topic, but I’m considering something similar for my own yard (Lansing, MI) to created some privacy on our raised deck. Did you build the trellises yourself?

Sweet potatoes vine like crazy, (Other kinds of potatoes don't vine however) they grow fast and are easily planted using sprouts. Morning glories aren't edible and don't grow as many vine off shoots but have beautiful flowers. Clematis has thick leaves and many flowers which would be great for privacy, they also are not edible but have flowers that come in many colors and varieties, the most common color is purple.
