what kind of hood? I have a dropped ceiling in my kitchen and had one made when I had my cabinets painted. I used the vent insert and they built this around it. it's the 36" (or a bit smaller) GE vent insert. home depot has it

My Wolf Pro Island hood is 18 inches high without any extensions, so it would be too low for my taste if used with a 7 ft ceiling. Nominally, you would want a hood height of 12 to 14 inches for a 7-foot ceiling, and this would best be operated with a remote blower so the motor/fan did not contribute to the height. No internal blower would allow room for baffle tilt and air flow in the containment space.

There should be quite a few of this size available, and if you want something quasi-professional, perhaps ModernAire has a baseline in this height.

Require "short kit" for 7' ceiling

I saw this but wasnt sure what hoods this would go with. Also it is for a rental so I dont want to spend a lot of money. What hood would you recommend to go with the short kit?

why not something like this

or, just get the insert (these are less than $700, build a hood (box) around it,

and you can tile it, or sheet rock, or wood trim, wood planks, whatever. not expensive
