I need help with white leather sofa and love seat for living room

I have grey slighty patterned floor tile and white leather furniture. I live by the beach and am looking for ideas on how to decorate the space. It is open concept to the dining and kitchen area. Cupboards are almost black the grey is so dark. Ceilings are 10'. I have lots and lots of natural light. This is a new place for me and a new concept in decorating. Am at a loss.

I plan on adding a raw wood coffee table and a rattan rug. I really don't know. The walls are white with a very tiny hint of yellow. I have a friend painting a 4x6' canvas with drift wood, sand and of course ocean that I thought I would replace the clouds.

I have ordered grey cloth chairs for the table and covered the rocking chair with a soft grey fabric. I would like some art-- maybe macrame or pictures. Carpet?? The island granite is in the front of picture. Get rid of the mirror, rocking chair?? There is a bench on the other side of the table that I will put a padded bench cover on. Color??

Kitchen needs help on top of cupboards and something to give it character. The whole place needs character!

so are we unless you post some photos!

until you do, what is it you're looking to accomplish?

I just posted some pictures. Didn't even think of that at the time of original post! Ok, now there is more to work with. Many thanks!

you have a nice foundation to work with.

Did you do these cabs? Wondering why with those tall ceilings you only have 30" uppers installed. Any possible way you could redo the uppers in white, maybe 36 or 42" ? or, can you add onto what's there w/maybe some glass upper boxes ?

see how these uppers have boxes w/glass on top of the shorter ones? something like that.

something taller? if you did the glass, it would lighten up the dark kitchen a bit

or bring in white glass uppers

Tried to photo shop in the upper white ones so you can see.

also gave you a white solar shade, added some wood cutting boards and some other colorful decor!

talked about removing the uppers right there and doing open shelving. (here's a quick photoshop:

bring in a runner in front of the sink w/some whites/beachy blue tones.

You could remove the uppers to the right of the sink around to the vent hood, and do an L shape open shelving there

But, I'd remove Marilyn and the curtains over the sink!!

do you have to have a window covering?

If so, try something w/some texture, maybe a woven wood shade

or try something like this w/a pendant, lighter shade

where the clock is (remove that rod!) can you do a sconce? a colorful sconce over an inset blind would really jazz up that part

    maybe something a little beachy?

All diff types. you could get one that goes w/your pendant.

To further lighten up that kitchen, I'd bring in a lighter counter stool. (too much dark in there)

look at the woven loom counter stools.

or look at rattan or seagrass stools.

let me know what you think of these.

I'll get to the living room next!

As you know, gray and white are neutral colors. In my opinion, you have more than enough gray. I would start adding beach colors into the mix. The tan/beige pillows on the couch are a good start. Maybe add coral, blue, or green throw into the mix along with different seat cushions for the black chairs. What are the dimensions of your living area? The furniture looks pretty tight; it appears there is very little walk-way into the furniture area. Could just be the camera angle though. I would move the 2 chairs back a foot or so. Find an end or accent table to place between them. The coffee table can be turned so that it is parallel to the couch. Or instead of a coffee table, perhaps a pouff with a tray for center of room for add'l visual space. I like to have end tables by my couch with taller lamps for reading purposes. As for the dining area, I think you're right that the rocking chair should be removed along with the mirror since it is only reflecting the kitchen cabinets. Definitely add a few plants to the rooms, There are some lovely macrame plant holders that will 'lighten' the rooms. I hope some of this helps.

I think you have some very pretty spaces here and have already done a more than respectable job with the decor. For the living room in particular, it only needs tweaks, such as raise up the art higher (and pull that sofa a bit from the wall, so that no one feels nervous about hitting their head on the art); take everything off the media unit that has height and make the decorations low bowls or trays. Plants look wonderful in that room, so bring in as many as you can handle.

Are you completely averse to a light toned shag-type rug for your living space? if that doesn’t work for you, a sisal is fine.

That rocking chair in the corner of the dining room isn’t going to get used, so I’d replace it with a plant. In the other corner, instead of sticks, get a free standing or wall mounted wine rack.

For the dining chairs, I would go for ones in colourful or transparent plastic (these come in different colors)

or if you prefer the comfort of upholstered go for bright colors, florals or graphics, or solids. Coral, aqua, — whatever you like. You could have a livelier linear light fixture, either something curvy or feathery or with shine. What you have is fine with your chairs, but after you switch out the chairs, maybe you’ll want a new fixture.

I love your glam Monroe headshots in the kitchen. A more fun and flashy kitchen clock would be nice, as would pop-style utensil holders, fruit bows, dishtowels, fab dishwashing gloves and a great cooking apron or 2

I would make bar stools the last purchase.

My problem with macrame is that it collects dust. If you like fabric arts (and they can be inexpensive and easy to hang) look at batik wall hangings and Japanese noren curtains — that kind of folk art, which can have bright colors or subtle designs.

For the kitchen area we might recommend putting lights above the window and getting a roman shade for the window instead of the curtain.

For the dining room we might suggest getting a large side board and replace the mirror with some artwork. We might also recommend adding fuller, thicker drapery to the dining room sliders.

thank you so very much. Love the ideas. I don’t have much room between the wall and the table or the light fixture won’t be right on the table. Maybe a skinny side board could work.
